Noisy interior 🤔

I’ve been thinking.. because my 01 Sport is pretty noisy on the freeway, and since I’m headed to college soon and will have to do some good freeway driving (also since this is my only car and I want to make it as modern and as comfortable sounding/feeling as possible) I might throw some sound deadening in the doors and perhaps in the wheel wells and in the driver and passenger footwells. Has anyone had any experience adding deadening to their second gens? Any suggestions to further quiet my interior? I know I need new body mount bushings still because those are rotted out and obviously will add to the road noise.

I figure, if people can make a classic car made purely of metal sound as quiet as a rolls, I may as well try for some more comfort and quiet in my rig instead of just turning the radio up every time I get on the freeway. I guess aside from suggestions, if I end up buying the deadening material I’ll make this a project thread and post updates on how it’s going and how it’s sounding.

We have used sound deadening Matt on most of our builds
Under the carpet and inside the doors
Next would be to replace all of your door and window seals have that sucker feeling like a new rig! I can often find new seals at the junk yard… ones in better shape then mine and they are like $15 for a whole truck worth

Planning on just picking up some sound deadening for the doors and floors. Grabbing some universal weatherstripping for the doors and such too to improve sealing. Have any experience with that simple stuff off amazon? Would it be any good? Or should I look elsewhere for seals and such?

Brand new door seals will make a huge difference
You can glue/
Tape some additional weatherstrip from the hardware store of course…
But if the factory seals are in good shape and door is adjusted properly you shouldn’t get wind noise or water leaks or need additional seals

I have used the door seals from rock auto with success. you have to cut them to size, but they work nicely. Only ones that are hard to find are the window seals themselves. You can still order window scrapers I believe. biggest thing for me is to suck it up and order those anti rattle bits for the door latches.

I’ve actually heard for the basic stuff that Amazon basics is pretty good. Saw a couple people use and review it.

Yes sir. I used Kilmat in mine made it quieter. I removed seats etc and put it all on the bottom. Put in the doors. Didnt do the hatch since long story short some day when I get to it Ill replace it.

Haha my hatch is.. a problem child for sure.. when trying to get the strap off of it to install my reverse camera I stripped a screw and had to drill through it. Not super proud of that one the strap to pull it down is now secured with just one screw

Mine has alignemnt issues so it never seals well. So most of the noise Ive realized comes thru there. But eithr way still quieter than pre mat haha

I think there is little/no sound deadening on the rear wheel wells or sides in the cargo area…

There's a really straight B2 in the junkyard here. Someone stripped out the interior, and it doesn't look like there's sound deadening anywhere but under the carpet.

I took all the door panels off and installed Siless Sound Deadening Mat:

I applied it to the plastic panels and not the doors themselves. It makes a huge difference as there’s less outside noise. I bought the 52 sqft version and I had enough to cover all four door panels, and I still have some left over for the rear cargo panels and lift gate panel.

You just need to clean the panels and apply the mat with a roller. You have to cut the mat to fit but it’s not difficult. I also installed a new carpet and that helped with noise too.
