This is the exact wire i spliced into my tail lights did nothing.

Good articles, but completely useless for wiring a 2nd gen Explorer.

Go to the dealership and pick up a trailer wiring harness kit for your vehicle. It will plug into the trailer wiring connector located behind the driver's side tail light (round plug, roughly an inch in diameter), and include the bracket and mounting screw to attach it to the bumper. IIRC, it costs roughly $40.

listen thanks guys for all the help ill take some pictures to show you the disaster of my truck...then ill post the after once installed...i blew like 4 fuses trying to run this setup i was able to get the running and blinkers to work on the trailer but not the brakes. Ill call my local ford and pic that up thanks.

when I MADE a trailer wiring kit for my 96 truck I removed the tail light harness from another explorer. It gives you the exact plug you need to plug into the avialable trailer wiring port.

Those articles are not useless if you want to do the wiring yourself without the use of a plug in adapter, they will work on any vehicle. You see you dont HAVE to use a plug in harness, you can still do it the OLD fashioned way and actually tap into the wires behind the tail lights

Not everyone goes to the dealer and buys a plug in harness

ok went to a trailer store picked up the plug...so simple plug and play thats it thread closed.
