Hello, I have a 95 explorer that will not shift out of 1st gear unless I back off the throttle. The O/D light is flashing and has a computer code 646 (gear 2 ratio fault). The problem developed suddenly and has never had any problems prier. I dropped the pan and fluid was a little dark but not terrible. The pan had a very light film and magnet had very small amount of sludge built up, no metal shavings or any other foreign material.
The vehicle has 88k miles on it and I am unsure of the prier maintenance, have only owned for 6m. I have read other threads suggesting adjusting intermediate band and possible VB rebuild. does anybody think I would benefit from doing this or does it sound like I'm doomed? Also is there an posted procedure for adjusting bands?
Any suggestions will be greatly apprieciated!! Thanks
