2018 Explorer XLT
Just got a new 2018 Explorer XLT and I noticed I do not have front parking lights. The signature lights work, headlights, turn signals and the yellow side markers all work...just no parking lights to the front.

I noticed this due to wanting to change them to LED and they are a dual filament bulb. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas? I thought a simple fuse, but it seems they work through the BCM?

I do have Forscan and all it shows is a B1247 left rear turn indicator Circuit short to battery or open. The turn signals front and back both side work fine, just no lower power parking/marker lights in the front.

Just wanted to see if I could solve this before going to the dealer.

Thanks!

Seeing it’s brand new I would just bring it to the dealer, this way it is documented as an issue in case it turns into something requiring warranty work.

Working as designed. The 2019 is an exception (not sure why Ford made that running change), but if you have a 2016-18 with signature lighting, those are the parking lights. The dual filament bulb in there never uses the steady burn filament. PIU and Base vehicles will have more 'standard' lighting that work more in line with what you're used to.

Functionality should be as follows in Parking Lamp mode:
-Rear accent strips on L/R rear tail lights. Small set of LEDs on outboard sides of vehicle (sidemarkers)
-Front Signature Lighting should be on with reduced intensity
-Front headlamps should have small LED side markers, color orange, on the outboard sides.
-Turn signal bulbs should be entirely off until a signal is activated.

OOOOHH....okay... THANK YOU! Ripping my hair out over here... :)

Next question...do you know if they are able to be turned on via Forscan?

In my research, no, there is also a wiring difference.

You were correct. I fiddled around with Forscan for months (as you can see by the time of this response!) and nothing. I got the wiring schematics book from Ford and they "should" be able to be activated via the PCM/BCM but I couldn't get it to do so.

I ended up taking the wire for them off the main headlight plug for the parking lights and spliced them onto the lead for the parking light itself. It just needed 12v. I would have preferred to do it with programming but this works also. Not sure why it drove me so bananas to only have the "signature" lights as parking lights...but it did.

So what all flashes when you turn the 4-ways on? Parking lights and Signature lights?

I was able to activate turn signals as parking lights in Forscan by changing parameter 726-29-02 to xx01-xxxx-xxxx.

BUT it only changes it to constant on and the turn signals don't flash. Too bad...

I thought the amber parking lamps and turn signals were one in the same.

Not on mine at least. My turn signals only flash for turning. The signature strip acts as the parking lights.

Ah..okay. I forgot about the Signature Lamps.

Yes, I could get it to do this also... It's a very odd thing and apparently, the 19's have regular parking lamps...as do the 16's and 17's...but the 18's do not...

Is that right? I thought it was only the 19's where they activated the turn signal as the parking light (as well as the lower trim models which do not have signature lights).

Anyways, I wonder if there is another parameter in Forscan that is preventing the 726-29-02 to xx01-xxxx-xxxx change from working as intended. I gave up after playing around with it for weeks without success.

I'm updating my Win laptop and I'm going to give this a shot here in a few.

I really want what was posted in that video (in the FORScan thread)...mirror blinkers to stay on and blink when the blinker is on and the amber fronts on. I found where it was done on the F150, but not an Explorer.

What video? Sounds pretty cool I'll have to look into that.

No go for me too. I looked around for other things to change and I could not get it to work. I want it to work!

This is the F150 mod that I would like to figure out.

I know, same. I even emailed the Forscan team and they told me to try "2" instead of "1" but that didn't take for me.
