Hey guys I have a BII with a D35 stock but ford didn't include the 8.8. I was wondering if you coud give me some input on my chances of finding a D35 and 8.8 with 4.10s at a junkyard.

Thanks

No 91-94 Explorers came with 4.10s stock. The 95+ did though. The problem with this is that you'd only want the rear 8.8 w/ 4.10s. The front d35 would be IFS. I believe there is someone on this site (also in/near CA) w/ a d35 center section w/ 4.10s and a locker. ;)

If you want odds for the newer ones with those gears, look at the poll that was on here recently about what gears everyone has. The 4.10s were not as common, but they exist. Mine is. Thats for the rear in your case as the front did not come stock that way accoding to BMX.

EDIT: Found the poll. Don't know if its stock gears, but what people have.

Thanks! What about rangers? Did they have 4.10s more or less common than explorers. And would a ranger 8.8/D35 be the same width and all?

my best guess would be once any 8.8 with 4.10's in it hits the yard, its taken very quickly... I am pretty sure mustang have the same axles, and a common upgrade for mustangs is the 4.10 gears.

For just the gear sets, lots of vehicles have the 8.8s under them. Explorer, ranger, mustang, 90+ Aerostars. Some are coil spring/trac bar setups though.

Some (I think) are independent 8.8s in like later t-birds and cougars. The newer explorers are 8.8 independents.

I think he just wants bolt in swap. Does the mustang have leaf springs (didn't think so)?

If you can find a Ranger FX4 Level 1 or 2 and they all had 4.10's or 4.56's

My 97 Sport has 4:10 axles. I think that if you find an Explorer with 16" wheels stock, it will be more likely have a 4:10

TTB D35 4.10 (Explorer, Ranger, Etc) didn't come from the factory like that. IE, odds of finding a matching pair at the junkyard is slim to none.

For the rearend, look for SOHC V6 engines, and 16" wheels. Those are much more likely to have the higher ratio 4.10:1 gears. Get the parking brake cables with the rearend also. Good luck,

ignore the first part of what I wrote.... I missed the TTB reference....

For '97-99 for sure, the 4.10 was an option on the 4x4 Sports and 4-doors with the 4.0 SOHC and the 5R55E automatic.

To find those, as was mentioned above, look for the 16" wheels on an SOHC 4x4. That was a pretty popular combination.

You could always order a ranger, BII, or explorer with 4.10's.
They are out there but are RARE.
Maybe a little more common in area's where 4x4 is important (like Colorado). and I have seen them in the yard from time to time, but nothing compared to the number of 3.27, 3.55 and 3.73
