I have searched and searched and have come up short. I live in southern California, and I am looking for some good trails to hit up. Please keep in mind my 06 xlt is stock and I do not have any sort of lift. I am not looking for anything extreme just something that say, a Subaru outback couldn't drive up. Any and all tips or suggestions are appreciated. Heck even if its just a dirt road you know about, let me know.

is that trail something that i can drive up, looks like fun. I checked it out on Google Earth. A little far from me, but still looks like tons of fun.
I have found trails like that one before but i would like to stick a little closer to home

How about the fella that lives in Acton? Chat with him, gotta have a bundle o' trails out that way...

...It is drivable.....Also, you could go up to Pismo Beach and camp..:D

I went to pismo in March of this year and i would like to go back before the rain hits us. Now that was fun, Driving across the dunes was a blast. I may have a stock 4x4 but with my tires psi down to around 20 i never got stuck and i had a blast.

There are some great trails up in Mammoth Lakes, (thats where i am right now) its just that with the price of gas being so high i would like somewhere closer to home to go. Hmm, i just may extend this vacation a week longer, haha. pismo here i come.

check out Rincon trail, it's in the san gabrial mts. Connects the 2 and 39. It a nice drive, and you probally don't need 4wd.;)

Checked that one out stic-o and looks fun, i may try it out.

Anyother ideas? I am looking for trails within 150 miles of Ventura County.

Arrowhead and BigBear are within that range and with some of the best "mild to wild" trails anywhere in Socal. Just read the trip reports in this forum

Hey, i'm from Simi Valley and there isn't much that is close to home. One place you might want to try is Gorman/Hungry Valley, there are tons of little trails there that you will have no problem with. I know there are some trails and places to go in the Angeles Nat'l Forest, but i've never been myself. I actually don't think there is any legal place to offroad in Ventura County. So other than those areas you wont find much else without taking a drive out of the city.

Also, in Hungry Valley there is a trail that looks like it connects (by map anyway) to HWY 33 north of Ojai, not sure how long it is but it would be fun to get a few vehicles and maybe camp along the way overnight. It might even be the famed Miller Jeep Trail i'm thinking of.

Only places i know of are the Edison service roads up behind the T.O. Homedepot, and down in malibu there are some great fire roads.
Hey you live in Simi We should meet up sometime.

Ya i know the place behind Home Depot, i doubt that's legal there. I've never been on anything in Malibu, i never looked for anything, but i have been wondering what's off Kanan and Las Virgenes.
I live in Long Beach most of the time for school, but when i come home sometime to my parents' we should meet up.

Most of what is off of Kanan is Edison Service Roads andFire Roads. There is a fairly decent trail thats about 2-3 miles off of Encinal Canyon. There is a gate but i am sure that no one actually owns the land because the gate is old and rusty and its broken.

sure we could meet up but please do rememeber that i have a STOCK 4x4, no lifts here.

Your probably right about the back roads of HomeDepot, still its fun.

As for malibu, here is how i found most of the trails up there. Go to google Earth and just look over an area until you find a trail and have fun. Now sometimes the trails are overgrown so you cannot get up there, but hey if it gives me a reason to go to the beach i am all for it.

DOWNLOAD GOOGLE EARTH HERE
You should download it then you can do what i do. In fact after you said you were wondering what was in Las Virgenes, I looked on Google Earth and found a few trails, not much but hey might be fun.
