oil pan mystery object

Fry's Electronics sells inspection cameras specifically for stuff like this.

so, i have been using my new bore scope to peer inside my motor to find out whats wrong. i guess little balls of aluminum and metal shavings arent the best thing to find in there! on the plus side, the scope sure is cool as hell!

so far all that i have found has been these little balls of aluminum and a few metal shavings. i can see the drain plug hole but there is nothing on the bottom of the pan that i could see that would restrict the oil from draining. this would be the second oil change( in a two week period) that has had something hard covering the hole that i needed to stick something up into the hole to be able to drain the oil. but if it was that large in the first place, why cant i see it now?

might have been sucked into the oil pump pickup and stuck there. Just a possibility...

For the 94 Explorer oil pan:

You don't have to pull the motor all the way out just high enough to get the pan free from the cross members. You will need to drain the radiator and the oil from the pan. You only need to take off the motor mounts and disconnect the transmission so the engine block can be lifted up about 8".

95's oil pan is a bit different... Remove starter, then the 24 bolts.. 22 are 10 MM bolts, 2 are T27's.. (Closest to trans)
Hope that helps..

I pulled the pan on an engine one time and found about 6 of those little rings that are supposed to break off when you remove the cap on an oil bottle. I however dont think this would keep the oil from draining out. I for the life of me never did figgure out how they made it through the return oil passages down to the pan in the first place. they were still perfectly round just laying in the bottom of the pan. I have heard of a couple of cases where they got into the oil pump and toasted an engine though.

Well... I found a 30 amp fuse in my oil pan.. Atleast someone was trying to make it have extra protection! LOL.. I'm also apparently missing that cross member that goes across one side to the other under the pan... :I
