I decided to become elite, because I saved a lot of money by visiting this site. It's a very helpful site. Defiantly one of the most active ones I have been on.

Well, back for a quick vacation report. The Mounty carried us 1,700 miles through St. Louis to Nashville, then to Memphis, then to Branson, Mo. and back to Topeka. I started the message center when we left, and we averaged 18.2 miles per gallon. I was quite pleased with that, driving between 73 and 78 mph on the interstates.

The transfer case seemed to have functioned perfectly, and doing all the 100,000 miles stuff, the plugs, air filter, fuel filter, tranny service may have contributed to the good mileage.

The Mounty handled beautifully, and the AWD may have kept me out of big trouble when we hit a major downpour coming in to the south side of Kansas City on Sunday afternoon.

Now with 83,000 miles on the odometer, I am looking forward to a few years of driving without any major expenses.

Thanks again for your input on my previous issues, and I'll be looking in for other tips as time goes on. Happy motoring to you all!

...with the people on this site you should be in good hands...i am glad to hear your mounty put a smile on your face with this long trip...good luck and stay away from the stealerships...:D

Well, it's been a while, and I found the forums again, so here's a little update. The Mountaineer has 111,119 miles and has not been in the shop except for oil changes since my last post.

I prefer driving it to my wife's Honda Accord, as it's more comfy, sits up where you can see traffic, and of course the AWD.

It looks like as long as I own the boat, I'll have the Mercury Mountaineer, and that's not a bad thing. It's a bit scary with the gas prices edging ever upward though...

Thanks again for your input!
