Hi,
I have had my explorer since January 2000,(97K miles, now 104K) and had no problems till now, when driving home in the evenings it starts to get very hot, Normally the temp guage sits at just below halfway on the 'R', At the beginning of the week the temp went past 'Normal' and the Air-Con started blowing hot, which I think is normal if the engine gets to hot?
The Coolant recovery res. was empty so I topped that up, left it over night, most of what I added was sucked in to the Rad. So I added some more in the morning when the engine was cold.
Driving to work in the morning is fine, air-con on, sitting at 65-70 for 20 miles, temp gets up to the 'O' in 'NORMAL', Morning temp is about 65-75 degrees(AZ) however going home later in the day temp about 90 degrees the temp hovers about the 'L' in 'NORMAL' and sometime goes higher, I need to put the heat on to keep it down, driving about 50.
The engine dosen't seem to be losing any coolant , checked it every morning, nothing in the exhaust, if it was a Gasket or Cracked Head would it matter what the temp was outside when driving?, I suspect that you would have problems whenever the engine was running.
Could it be the Thermosat? Radiator? Water Pump? Any ideas?
Thanks
