I will be painting mine this spring, bumpers and fender flares. Another great and informative thread.

Well i did come searching and i think im gona go with Krylon® Fusion.

Just need to get as close to my type of blue as possible.

black would look good also...

also just a thought... i did this and like it alot... take your finger nail and peel off the pin strip on the doors... cause your grey pin strip sits out like a huge paint scratch...

mine XLS is red and it just looks better w/o it IMO...

I painted my flares black, click on the build link in my sig and you'll see how I did it. Krylon Fusion is your friend.

I didn't sand or prime mine, since I have a new opportunity to change some things, I may do that this time around.

i painted mine with krylon fusion flat black a few months ago. The top of the front and rear bumpers (Taking on the most sunlight) has really not turned out well.. It still looks okay but i would clear it maybe once or twice. I dont have pics on this website but im on www.cardomain.com just search my 03 and i have some pics on there if you wanna see

So the bumpers and flares were done without a clear?

Looks pretty good but im looking for a matching gloss as well.

they sell the gloss fusion and you could clear over it. Im thinking of doing it with mine when it warms back up to match my AVS plastics.

Doesnt look bad but just wondering, how many cans did it take to get to that point?

my bumpers looked like blu02's and after 2 good coats on everything it was good. around 4 cans at $5 a can. Dont know who all around the US has love bugs but love bugs will discolor the paint but not take it completely off. it will turn slightly gray but hardly noticeable. I highly recommend clearing the front bumper for sure. It gets the most abuse.

Oh! instead of taking the fender flares off and ruining all your plastic buttons (which it is hard to find the long ones for this truck) slide paper behind fender flare and tape off. BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERSPRAY THOUGH.

but the painted bumpers is definitely how friends point out my explorer over others and i recommend painting them yourself to anyone.

i did mine in herculiner. and the gas cap too. it looks incredible!
