What up forum. I'm in need of help here. I have an 01 sport and a buddy of mine was opening the hatch the damn plastic cover over the license plate just decided to go an explode. (Guess the 21 years are catching up to her,...body wise) so ive been searching everywhere to no luck in finding that damn piece. Ive tried repairing but my finished work end up to straight and not having that oem curve which causes it to break again.

Has anyone dealt with this? What did yall do? Has anyone made custom ones? How?

Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention also has anyone have their latch for the tailgate brake. Ive seen others that brake at the screw but mine broke from the handle. Any tips on repair?

Junkyard?

I didn't know those would be a prone to breaking item, the last time I went to a JY there were dozens of them. I bought a spare years ago so I could fill in the emblem space, that was a Mountaineer though. I'd still get a used one of a new one costs too much, they shouldn't crack or break unless some odd force causes it.

The latches of all the doors and hatch should be lubricated every couple of years. Most have never been done, so yours got stiff and finally broke the handle. My 98 Mercury got pretty stiff back in 2006 or so, I lubricated it then and it's worked like new since.

I don't know how hard it is the R&R that rear handle, but it will take 1/4" rivets, just like the door handles.

Its a piece of🍰 unless you shut the gate lol
I didn't use rivets I used ss bolts and aircraft nuts with washers
Been that way since 2014
