Please Help! Engine quit running

I got a 91 Ford Explorer, 4.0 Liter V6. Today my GF was driving her and she said it just quit running. She said the accelerator just seem to slow down then engine shut off. Its got gas, spark engine turns over great. Just won't fire up.. The water was low but never overheated. Its got oil, no water in oil. What do you think it could be?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.. thanks

Actually the motors a 95 swapped her back in 96. Everything on this truck been replaced as least once! LOL but she's been a good truck and I hope she not done yet!

Well, gas and spark are usually the culprits in a no start, so I'll ask-- How did you check for fuel and spark? Did you measure fuel pressure at the rail? Are the fuel injectors firing? Spark plugs wet with gas after attempting to start? Any codes in the computer?

I don't know if the fuel for sure is injecting. But she didn't run out of gas, there is a halve tank left. I pulled a plug wire off the coil pack and had her turn it over and there is spark jumping from coil to wire. I checked a couple of them and there is spark.

I don't know how to check codes..

CPS, does that stand for "Camshaft Position Sensor" or "Crankshaft Position Sensor"

On your '91, it will be crankshaft because you don't have a camshaft position sensor.

You can pull codes with nothing more than a paper clip. There are at three sets of instructions here: one in the Under the Hood forum and 2 in the EEC-IV sub-forum.

Do you hear the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds when you turn the key on without starting the engine?

Yeah my first guess would be a fuel delivery problem, borrow a fuel pressure tester from autozone or something and check the pressure at the rail. Could be as simple as a fuel pump relay.

As Mr. Shorty said listen for the fuel pump when you turn on the key...

You need to listen for the fuel pump when the key is turned to on.
If you hear nothing then suspect the fuel pump relay, very common issue when these trucks just quit running all of a sudden

My shortblock is actually a "95" basically just used the shortblock. Put everything that was on the 91 block I put back on.

my first guess is check the fuel pressure at both the injectors and on the fuel rail. check the fuses, and if they are good fuel pump is next!

..The only reason I suggested the CPS is that your motor is a '95..

I'm going to check everything when I get some time. I had the truck towed back to my house where my GF left it sitting on the freeway! This weekend I will check the fuel pump fuses and everything that was suggested.

the relay fails on these trucks alot, especially when they are 17 years old

...If you don't hear the fuel pump "whir up" when you turn the key to the on position, this link will help you with the relay...
