Please help with oil pump replacement in vehicle.

Hi All, I have a 2003 explorer limited 4x4 with a 4.6l engine. The oil pump failed & I'm in process of replacing it in vehicle. I'm all the way to the pump & now I'm stuck. Does anyone know of any threads available or information on replacing pump specific to my vehicle. I'm having trouble removing the pan. All the timing chain guides broke into pieces so I need to pull pan to clean all debris out. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you

You should pull the engine
You will not be able to get the pan away from the engine far enough to remove the pan over the oil pump pickup without lifting the engine WAY UP
replacing the oil pump with the pan in place would be next to impossible

I have not done a 2003 explorer but I have done enough 4x4 trucks to know you USUALLY have to pull the engine to get the oil pan off and out of the way

Why pull the engine on a 4×4? I'll admit I haven't had to drop the pan on our Explorer, but I did on our Tahoe. You just drop a front crossmember, lower the front differential, then drop the pan. I'd look into this before thinking of pulling an engine.

To do the the oil pan the front diff has to be lowered that's basically your cross member on the 4.0 not sure on the 4.6...
