I was thinking of painting a fire extinguisher to match the color of my truck (black) and putting it on display with my audio system. Does anyone know how I would go about doing this? Can I just paint over the red or do I have to sand and prime it? Thanks for any help.

Just scuff it down with 320 grit and respray it. Or you can also scuff it with a new Scotchbrite if you don't have any sandpaper handy.

So why would you want it black? I like opening the door and seeing the RED extinguisher right by my seat. That way people know what it is and know I do think of safety.

I am going to put it on display with my system and I wanted a custom look for it.

fire!!!

Find a fire extinguiser shop near you...you can either order a black or chrome (and red) ABC extinguisher, OR you can just buy the body and paint it whatever colors you want, then bring it back and they will put it together for you and charge it.

Personally I recommend having them charge it with halon, as the ABC type will ruin your audio equipment and your engine if you use in on them.
