96 Ford Explorer XLT 5.0
My name is Wayne and I recently acquired a 96 Explorer XLT with the 5.0L engine. Previously I had a 92 Explorer XL manual with the 4.0L V6. I have experience with the 92 that I hope will bleed over into the 96. But just today my drivers front power window went out. I put it down with the switch and when I got home it would not go up with the switch, so I removed the door panel, and proceeded to apply 12v power to the motor itself and just like with the window button all I hear is a click that sounds to be coming from the window motor. Yes I did apply power in both directions and it did not work either way. But from most of the posts i have been reading today if the motor is no good you should be able to push the window up by hand, is that correct? Bc i cannot make that window budge. And yes all the other windows roll up and down from the main drivers door switch, so I have ruled out that switch being bad. Any ideas? Should I just get a new motor and actuator and replace it? Can I just replace the motor itself or is it all one piece? Thanks and any info/advice is much appreciated.

I have the same problem in my 92 only the pass window goes up and down I think the actuator and motor are one piece

Hi, there are three 8 mm bolts that hold the motor in place. You will need to remove the speaker, if you have not already, to allow you to reach inside and remove the motor. With the motor removed, the window can be pushed up and down. You should be able to get the motor itself from parts store, junk yard or dealer.
