Hello All,
So yesterday I had parked my car with the driver's side window down and went to roll it up later and it wouldn't roll up. It's a 1996 4wd V6.

All other windows still work from the driver's window control. I hear a faint click from the door when I try to roll up or down, but no movement.

Wondering if these means the motor quit on me or if it could be some kind of relay?
Also is there a way to roll it up manually? We're in the rainy season here and need to get it fixed ASAP.

Thanks!

Update:
Well after sitting all night with plastic over the window, I went out and fired it up and the window rolled up.
Still, I don't want this to become an issue in the future. Any idea what the issue is?

Could be a bad connection, At the motor.
A broken wire.
A switch going bad.
A window relay issue , also the GEM controls the window function.
I had the same problem.
Window went Down and would not go up.
I just replaced the motor. Never look into it.
On other vehicle, I had window issue, the door was i the sun and the Window stop working. It was A washer of the motor drive shaft.
This is A tough problem too solve it works than it doesn't work. Its not like it does not work at all. Easy fix.
Next time it happens, remove the door panel, disconnect the connector at the motor and provide power and a ground to the motor connector and see if the motor works. This will rule out the motor. At the same time, you could test the wiring. Use A test light at the hardness connector. Do you get power or not. And work your way thru the hardness, too find the break.

Awesome, thanks for all the info!

The click noise is likely the stock motor tying to move the glass

Often on the old 96-00 trucks a weld will break and the window glass guide channel inside the door comes loose leaving you with crooked glass that has a hard time sliding up or down

Could also just be a weak / old motor

The inside of your door mechanism likely needs some cleaning and lubrication… and adjust the window guide channels and clean the rubber surround and seals. Often this is all that is needed to get them working like new again

In any case removing the door panel and having a good look is the next step
