New here and found some great info so far. I have a 2002 XLT and my keyless fob hasn't worked in some time. I put a new battery in it and when I follow the directions to reprogram the fob everything seems to do what it is supposed to do. Then I take out the key but it still doesn't work.

I turn key 8 x until locks cycle ===> then I click on the fob and locks cycle ==> turn off key and pull key out of ignition. Try fob and nothing happens. Anyone ever hear of this happening or do I have to go to the dreaded dealer?

1. Ensure the vehicle is electronically unlocked.
2. Put the key in the ignition.
3. Turn the key from the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position to 3 (ON).
4. Cycle eight times rapidly (within 10 seconds) between the 1
(OFF/LOCK) position and 3 (ON). Note: The eighth turn must end in
the 3 (ON) position.
5. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming
mode has been activated.
6. Within 20 seconds press any button on the remote entry transmitter.
Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the
procedure over again.
7. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that this remote entry
transmitter has been programmed.
8. Repeat Step 6 to program each additional remote entry transmitter

Just wanted to make sure you followed these steps. You also have to have the right remote.

Yes I followed the steps and every step works .... after 8th turn and left it in ON position the doors lock/unlock to confirm it is in programming mode .... then I hit a button on the remote and the door lock/unlock to confirm programming but when I take the key out it simply doesn't work. Very wierd

Make sure all doors are closed while going through the steps.
