Hi all,

I just got the gear race (5R55E)I bought from je5 (thanks pal)to install in my A4LD. They look great!!!
I am planning to do it slow so I make sure everything is done right. I also plan to replace all bearings and bushings. To start, I will be working on the OD assembly and I will let you guys know how it's going.
On the Project Frankentranny thread (which is awesome), I don't remember mentioning what parts cannot be used, I am assuming these parts have about the same overall dimensions the same with some improvements. Is that right?
Before I go any further, I will make a list of parts I will have to buy to get the OD assy done.

You would keep your original valve body. The newer 5R valve bodies are not backward campatible, since they use more solenoids, and the fluid passage ways are different. The A4LD uses a vacuum modulator, and a governor while the 5R doesn't. The 5R has a DTRS, and a TSS, and the A4LD doesn't. 2001, and up uses an ISS, while the older models don't. The center support was improved on the 5R, but you won't be using the TSS on the A4LD.

I am planning to replace my stock one by this:

I may upgrade it with the shift kits if it doesn't come with that.

Question about the bellhousing/oil pump. I am planing to use the 5R assembly with the mods to improve its performance (shown on the Frankentranny thread). I am also thinking about polishing the oil chanels on the oil pump. Do you think it's a good idea?
