I'm going to have to remove the axle shaft from the housing to replace my caliper mount bracket. I've taken a look at the following diagram to get a general idea of how everything is connected, but I have a few questions before I get started.

To do this, I'll need to open the differential up, but what am I looking for once I get that open?
What happens to the wheel bearings/seals when I remove the axle? Do I reuse them? Do I need to re-grease them or anything?
Also, after draining the diff... what do I fill it with?
Is there anything else I should be aware of when doing this? And also, seeing as I am doing this, is there any routine maintenance that I should go ahead and do? For instance, replacing anything.
Thanks
