I want to fit my hinges on the back of my 97 explorer with a quick release pin so i can take the window off on hot days. Do you think i need to get a new hinge or can I just use the stock hinge and by a pin?

id say you could use the stock hinge, just grind off the end of the through pin replace with something that clips.... but you would prob loose the use of the defogger in this no?

my rear defrosters already feel off and now i can take them off and on easily so thats not the issue but now im thinking about the hydrolics that hold it up might be a problem.

I drove around the other day with my rear window open. With it like this, I got a ton of hot air actually coming through the window- might have had something to do with the open window creating an area of low pressure behind the tailgate and "sucking" the hot air in.

Don't know, but it wasn't exactly pleasant.

Yeah Like tom said, air comes in through the back. This is dangerous because exhaust fumes can get caught inside the cabin and kill you. I wouldn't recommend doing so.
