Rancho 9000 question

I'm looking for new front shocks but I'm worried that the Ranchos would wear quickly on a lowered Explorer. I'm running KYB Monomax shocks on the front of my truck right now and they're shot after 10k miles.

I like the ride and adjustablility of Rancho shocks.

Just installed my 9000Xs on the front ( only ) today.

First impression,with no adjustmentsd yet, they are very similar to the Edelbrocks.

I shall play with adjustments and report later.

Al, I think you will find that the Rancho 9000's are quite superior to the Edelbrocks in the ride quality category. I used to run Ed's. Soften up your fronts to 3 or 5 and you'll tell an immediate difference..

They are considered to be one of the most durable long lasting shocks on the market, plus you can dial your ride setting on them. There is a HUGE difference between having them set on 1 and set on 9. In fact I can tell a difference between settings 3 and 5.

Also they have a lifetime warranty, so if one wears out, take it back, get a new one, no questions asked.

im new at the explorer mods and i was looking at some rancho 9000s on ebay and each set said it fit a different truck but none for the x, does it matter or can i just get any set

You need ones for the explorer, the shock lengths and end fittings are vehicle specific.

I'm not questioning the durability of the Ranchos themselves, but I'm worried that they'll wear out quickly in the front because I'm lowered, thus the overall shock length is shorter than stock. Perhaps with the adjustability, I can avoid this?

If you're going to wear out a shock quickly because you're lowered, I would say that a Rancho will last the longest before it wears out. I was not impressed with the quality or ride of the Edelbrock IAS I used to run. One of the Edelbrocks was defective and lasted about 2 months.

Yeah, only if it isn't your fault. I dented one with my radius arm (Too much flex, shock too close to rad arm) and they would not warrantee it. It leaked all over the place. I had to buy another. So, now I have one Rancho 9000X and the other 3 are plain old 9000's.

I love em. ON the way to T-haven, I had the rears set to 3 (out of 5) while towing the trailer and the sway was bad. on the way back, I set em to 5 (of 5) and the sway was un noticable. Yeah, I like em. I usually keep em set to a half way point for daily driving.

I HAVE HEARD (dont quote me on this) that you can put the 9 way adjuster on the 5 way shocks and it will work the same
Apparently as you turn the know in and out it adjusts the shock, the adjuster has the detents built in for 5 or 9 positions, the shocks are the same
I have a 5 pos swithc on a 9 pos shock right now until the correct part comes in

Yeah, thats what the guy at 4wheelparts told me. 9new = 5 old. silly huh. I guess they had to compete with the other shock people that make a 9 way.
