'97 Explorer Sport
I know what you may be thinking... but this is my winter vehicle, and there is a yeard neaby with tons of these things. I am looking to add some creature comfort to my Explorer. I have a 1997 Sport, with the SOHC, 4WD, cruise, power driver's seat, etc (fully loaded for a Sport from what I can tell). I've already added the auto-dim rearview, it was easy enough and wiring dosen't scare me. :D Added Sport step bars too. I searched, but not much seems devoted to this topic without looking each thing up individually.

What I would like to add is:

leather seats. possibly heated, but that seems like a bit of a stretch unless the heat switch is on the seat itself. I am also wondering if the 4 door rear will fit in a 2 door.

the multifunction gauge. seems easy enough, a wire to the fuel pump, speed sesnor, ground and positive?)

some sort of better radio. I want CD, but it looks like my center console is missing the CD changer wiring, therefore I'm stuck with an in-dash upgrade, what would fit stock? Seems like every radio uses different connectors, and the radio harness is intergrated with the dash wiring :(

Courtusey mirrors. the mirrors with lights on them. Easy en ough it seems, the power part should be plug and play, and then just a wire to the overhead light or door switch?

(dreaming) auto climate. I figure it's the same as the radio harness, intergrated with the main, which means going and cutting each individual wire, nevermind fitting sensors (would be nice to try if I can find it though).

Anything else that is a stock upgrade? I'm dreaming about having the most loaded Sport possible :P Think Limited Eddie Bauer Sport :D Except air suspension is out, that's TOO hard :P

EDIT: Oops, sorry, this belongs in this forum. I thought it was a good fit for the stock forum, but that is better :)

Ok
as far as the auto climate control--it will be a bit involved.
You will need also to have the electric motors which control blendd door-vent door. They are vacuum controlled on yours.
This could involve removing the entire dash,

Yeah, that's what I figured.

Do the cars with the computer use a different fuel pump for the fuel flow rate sender?

The heated seats in my Eddie Bauer have the button on the seat itself. So its all in one unit, although i dont know how its wired. Also the courtesy mirrors , are you talkin about the ones with puddle lamps? i also have those, but not sure how they are wired. If you could find an Eddie Bauer or Limited, it would prob have them. As for the back seat in a 4 door, i dont think it will fit a sport, but im not 100% sure, someone else might be able to help.

410fortune did the seat swap thing he has a thread on it somewhere.

Puddle lights are on the mirrors right? If not, what are they? I have seen lights on the step bars, but those were only for the 4 doors with the intergrated body kit bars (Limiteds and the like). They come on with the dome light right? WHen the door is open or the remote button is pressed.

Do the puddle lights come on with the dome lamp when you turn it on with the dimmer switch?

Ive wanted the mirrors that my girlfriends 00 Mountaineer has for some time now.

As far as aftermarket stereo goes, countless options. CD changers are passe. Get satellite radio and/or ability to play off an MP3 player. I listen to XM and play tunes off my iPod. Road trips are so much better when you have more than 6-10 CDs to chose from. Way more songs at your disposal and less space taken up. Check out crutchfield.com for options. Even if you don't buy from them, their site is GREAT fo researching product. You can even tell them the year/make of your vehicle and they'll tell you what works.

Well, I don't want aftermarket. i'd perfer to go with something plug and play, or at least looks OEM. Most aftermarket radios are really, really ugly.

Another great option for stereos is to get the HD radio's. Have heard them mentioned on the radio here and the signal is carried off the normall Fm but its higher quality and its free to use. That is a plus. For an OEM looking deck you will need to go through Ford or look on Ebay.

There is no way 4 door rear seats will fit in a sport. 4 door seats go from door to door, vs Sport seats go from wall to wal and have the tire humps by them. They also fold completly different. Sport seats have the bottom cushion flip up next to the front seats then the seat back goes to the floor. The 4 door seats fold down like a sandwich. It may be possable to go the other way, Sport to 4 door, but why. The sport seat is only built for two.
