Ranger rollover...take 2

Bill, I never knew you rolled on that trail or at least I don't remember you saying so. That trail is the scene of a lot of carnage it seems.
It was in 1999, maybe before I knew you. Someday I'll have to scan the one pic I have of it. I had to be towed all the way home to Carlsbad. $$$$

Glad you're ok Dave. Sorry to see the damage, but I'm glad you have plans to move forward:chug:

Dang, I'll guess Truckhaven this winter will be kinda a no-go for you...

Sorry to see the damage.

He's got 3 months, a tube bender and it's been a cooler then normal summer. No excuses:p:

It's not really a time issue...it's money issue.

Tube bender is useless now.

Might be cooler than normal where you live... here it was 117 a couple weekends ago and it's been around 110 lately so pretty normal here:p:

Not that i'd use those as an excuse though heh.

What about bottle jack/ porta power the cab up in to enough shape to get some windows in. I know you have some tube at the house maybe another $100 in tube and toss a cage in it so you wheel all winter then next spring summer hopefully save enough to do a good rebuild

Its not 117 at my house....

Graft a junkyard roof onto it. I've had it done. Twice. :D

Anything a possibility at this point. The bed sides for sure are coming off but the floor of the bed will remain. Then we'll see what takes shape from there.

This is why I was saying the $500 buck ranger, you could part out the rest and make your money back no problem.

Wow Dave, just read this. As funny as it may sound, Cutting sheetmetal off a good truck and welding it on (like a complete roof all the way around at each pillar) is a good excuse to weld your cage all the way around when you build it. It's really not that much work.

Damn, good thing you're okay... and a response to Turdle: For whatever reason, I always worry about the damage more than getting injured when I get into a sticky situation... what's up with that you guys? I'm sure I'm not alone here... lol

I would most definitely do it that way if I can keep the roof. It's taco'd pretty good though. I'm thinking my best bet would to get all the sheet metal inline as best I can then cut the roof off for a cage and re-weld the roof back on.

The other part of me says screw it and just buy a tube chassis and transfer the driveline over but I wouldn't be able to do this for at least a year or two.

I'll try pounding out my roof first and see how frustrated I get with that:p:

Dave, I don't you'll need it, but I have one of those Spot stud welder gun things that you can pull the dents out with. You welcome to borrow it.;)

I appreciate the offer Steve but to give you an idea of how bad the roof is caved in, I tried laying on my back in the drivers seat and gave it all I had pushing up with my legs and didn't even budge it.

The dent takes on a nice V-shape and almost touches the top of the pass. seat.

Oh wow dave man that is somthing I hope i can avoid for mine

Well I must say it really puts things into perspective once you've rolled your rig. I mean we spend all this time and money to make our rigs the best it can be whether it be a lift kit or full on SAS.

Everything is for the rig...sometimes you gotta think about yourself.

A cage should be at the top of your list after building up your rig and before getting hardcore with it.

I'm not pushing my luck to the 3rd strike...ok, i'm done preaching:p:

You start to not want to push the envelope as much anymore as well. This is why I never do CJ hill at t-haven. I'm pretty sure it will roll, because of being top heavy:rolleyes:

For me, the not having a cage is what keeps me from trying some things. I figure its like when I wear full leathers w/ armor when I ride the motorcycle. When I'm wearing the leathers I tend to ride much more aggressive and do thing I shouldn't be doing. When I ride with Jeans and the leather jacket I'm much more sane..

If I had a cage I'm afraid I'd find myself doing things I really shouldn't be doing.

That's the thing though, I wasn't doing anything hardcore when I rolled. Even though I had taken the hard line which was a steep faced wall, I made it to the top of that and was negotiating my way around a chunk of rock.

Guess what my first thought was when I knew I was going to roll?
"I wish I had a cage right now"
