so I've been fooling around with the idea of building a rear mount turbo kit for my LS1 camaro for awhile but have been a little hesitant about doing that to my daily driver sports car. so I thought of a novel idea build one for my winter and off roading vehicle. Now I know this is probably not the smartest idea but I really want to try and make my own turbo set up for something but I know before I get into that I should do some research. So I guess my question is more just what you guys think I would need or any problems I would run into now keep in mind I'm not trying to build a race truck or anything just a small turbo running low boost. now I know i'll probably have to upgrade the fuel system a bit possibly bigger injectors but just let me know what you guys think.
oh my explorers a 96 sport 4x4 4.0L

Try searching, I'm sure you'll come up with a few leads..

ah valid point sir I just checked and realised I forgot how much stuff is on this forum haha but theres one thing I figured out which is the turbo explorers on here are quite a bit more radical than I'd be looking for. I'd be trying to run a little lower on boost and I think they were all front mount turbos and I'm thinking about this as a budget build

theres a few vids on youtube with custom rear turbo theyre more like a mid mount where the muffler is. some time $ and fabrication it can be done as for a bolt on kit im not sure one is available yet. but it has been done. been pondering fabbing up one myself for my xlt 4.0 sohc ill let you know if i get any good ideas.

there was an episode of trucks where they did a rear turbo on an F150 lightning. look it up and see if that helps you with a few ideas

I remember seeing a rear mount on a vette on Horsepower TV done a quick search on the net and came up with STS

Post what you come up with I think this would be an awesome idea.

wow sorry about dropping off the face of the earth on this thread I spend way too much time on ls1tech. I just recently picked up a turbo with low miles for free that I do belive I'll be using on this build. I think i'm gonna go with that mid pipe placement for ease of mounting.
