Ok guys I have 2 Manual t-cases and an elctric t-case right now. The electric is acting up and one of the manuals just came off my DD and its making tons of noise. I bought a replacement manual t-case and my mechanic said it wouldn't shift so the company sent me another.

So I am thinking Between these 3 t-cases why couldn't I come up with at least one complete functioning Manual t-case and convert from the electric in my trail rig.

1. Are the internal parts the same between the elctric and manual shift t-cases?

2. Would it be difficult to rebuild a manual t-case?

3. Anyone know what the most common failure is in these t-cases?

Email Brett Grooms he can help you...be patient he just started a new job.....

The BW 1354 rarely has problems unless you let the ATF get toooo low..........

Also inside the case is really quite simple and straightforward..

I would think the chain gets worn as well as the sprockets, but other then that rarely do you hear of problems with these cases.......

I like the touch drive myself, if you do convert to manual I'll buy your old shift motor :)

Brett Grooms??? username please.

Well I know on the manual that went and took my transmission output shaft with it the chain must have broken. I've got a Ford service manual and hopefully it details the t-case well enough.

From looking at the manual cases today it appears that they are the same almost as the electric ones. I say this because I noticed the shift markings on the case where the motor goes in for the electric case. The insides of the cases should be the same right

inside the case should be identical, the shift mechanism and the speed sensor location are the only things that vary I believe??

Thanks I found him in another thread and sent him a PM.

Oh here's a quick question. If the VSS goes bad does it affect your speedometer or is it strictly for use by things like ABS sytem, t-case and cruise control. Can I do an ohm check on the sensor to see if its good or bad??

On a 1st generation X the VSS will not effect the speedo.

So approx what does a VSS run. maybe its cheap enough to not worry about tersting the sensor just replace it.

Thats right the VSS does not effect the speedo but if the speedo is acting funny its because either
a: the gear is fubared
b: the cable is fubared

If the gear of cable are FUbared, then the Vss might not be sending the correct signal.....

VSS price? I have no idea. I have like 4 of them laying around...junk yard time.......

I wish but the junk yards won't take a sensor off a t-case.

I seriously doubt there is anything wrong with the VSS itself, never seen one go bad.
I would look at the wiring instead....there are two wires to it, one is ground the other is to the EEC and cruise controller.
Green wire I believe.......

Hmmmm well my cruise controller has been disabled. The vaccuum hose going frombrake to vaccuum tree was cut just inside the engine firewall. But it shouldn't matter the previous owner said O?D and T-case were functioning just fine when he parked it for 4 months.
