replaced sttock heads 91 w 95 heads

Heh.. yes sir check with an actual pressure guage and also installed a real working sender. And removed the 20 ohm resistor.....brand new plugs and oil pressure is good.....im wondering if theres more sludge hiding in the block?
The heads are nos ford...found em at scarff over in kent.....

The noise is definitely top end...im thinking sludge

Not to be an ass but

Floppy "DISK"-a computer item
"DISC" brakes-part on a car/truck

what type of brake swap do you have?
check your signature ;)

Haha, well done, you got me. I guess I never proof read my sig.
Disc and disk are kind of like grey and gray. I always hated words like that.

Sorry, didn't mean to thread jack.

Do the new push rods have lash adjustment? Have they been adjusted?
It can get kind of messy, but you can remove the valve covers and have someone start the engine while you listen and watch for anything making the noise. There will be some oil mess, but it won't be like a fountain. It may help you figure out what's going on in there.

Damn, this was a good laugh boys...

Thanks:salute:

update

so weve traced it to somewhere in the upper end...most likely lifters.......so we a did a atf flush..........holy balls i've never seen anything so black....ran it or 20 mins with straight mercon 5.............giant chunks of nastiness fell out and now it's running like a top almost no noise:) wooo:)

lifters are brand new also like i SAID:)......there was sludge in the block that made it's way to the lifters and no it's gone....redneck:)

Glad you got it figured out

ATF for oil is a great idea. I have added a quart to my oil in past to clean up the motor and help out the valvetrain but I never considered running straight ATF. The detergent power would be awesome. Obviously I don't mean driving with it, but for cleaning out the motor that's an excellent idea.

Glad you got it figured out. :exp:

Wait... back it up, you used the ATF to clean out the engine? How does the process go exactly, and why have I never heard if this? Did you start the engine with only ATF?

New ATF has a rather powerful detergent in it, and is commonly added to oil by us "rednecks" before an oil change to break up some of the sludge. I have had mixed results with it myself, but i have never ran straight ATF for a flush (too expensive for me). I also use it for injector cleaner and it seems to work well for that. And if you dont have good hand cleaner handy scrub up with ATF before washing with soap and you will be amazed with the level of clean you find. Another handy trick with ATF is cleaning auto hubs, it will dissolve the grease if you let them soak long enough (mine took about a week)

I have heard about the auto hub thing, and never really got it. Thanks for the clarification!

I have looked at an 'engine back flow clean' that stealerships sell for about $200, sounds like this is one hell of a better option.

I've done this with pure atf. I used three quarts and started it for a few seconds just to circulate it through the engine. Then let it sit for a day or more and drain. Then I refilled with cheap oil and filter to flush the ATF, then drain and fill with good oil and filter. It worked great. my next oil change was clean with the Mobile1 filter (the best).

I've used kerosene on a old 302 i had that was slam full of sludge ,but did not start it.i used a oil pump primer ,work great and restored oil psi .

lemme just clarify the atf thing.....i ran five full quarts of mercon 5 as it is supposed to be full synthetic and full of detergents.......drained out the real oil and saved it as it had like a 100 miles on it poured in the atf....ran it for 20 minutes...revved it a few times while it was running and then drained the atf immediately and bablam tons of black chunks and jelly looking chunks poured right out made a huge difference.....

keep in mind i wouldnt do this in a motor that is believed to not be sludgy....y take a chance on screwing something up.......mercon v is around a 7 weight....im guessing the detergents and the uber thin oil whisk the sludge along to it final resting place in the oil drain pan:)

long story short it works wonders:) u can also put a quart of mercon v into your oil about 75 to 100 miles before oil change and ive seen that fix low oil pressure rod knock and such.......something to think about;)

i like tweaked logics idea of running the atf through the system and then letting it sit overnight:) the seals would probably love that and hopefully the atf would eat up some sludge.....

i read about using kerosene also it seemed to work well but i figured id go all out and hit it with everything i had.....

also diesel added 75 to 100 miles before the oil change is supposed to work really well..

thanks all for all the suggestions and such....:)

Might as well throw in too. My buddy's dad ran diesel in an old 302 in a '79 pick up, idled it only mind you. It was extremely sludged up. Brought it around, drove it for years after. I also have a buddy that ran straight ATF in his crankcase, R22 Toyo pickup. Ran straight ATF for years. Last I heard he has 150,000 kms on that engine... Not saying I would do it, just telling you he did. Inside of that motor was no doubt extremely clean.

Us Rx7 guys use ATF in the spark plug holes to clean carbon deposits from the apex seals (rotary piston rings). About a 1/2 ounce on each rotor face and let it sit for 24+ hours. Makes a huge difference. The carbon prevents the apex seals from sealing completely. That's how I came to the idea to use it in place of the oil for cleaning. Adding it to the combustion chambers of a stump thrower I haven't done. It might do the same thing for piston rings as it does for apex seals. It smokes crazy for about 30-45 minutes in the 7 after you start it. Spy Hunter type smoke screen.

I'm thinking it may do the same for stuck rings, my buddy Tracy (Iwonajeep) would feed ATF into the carb of his old Cricket once in a while to get it to stop using so much oil. That was a few years ago... smoked like a train when he would start it up again, very entertaining.
