It it easier to replace the tortion bar with some springs and bracketts rather than putting in a solid front axel. I understand that it is not the same.

Also how hard is it put in a solid axel? does any one have a complete writup for a 2nd gen?

Thanks,
-AG

Search, teh Gen II solid axle has been covered serveral times.

You cannot simple replace the torshion bar with a spring, however there are some kits ont eh market to convert the front end to coilovers.

A company called RCD makes a 5.5" coil-over conversion for Rangers which may work on Explorers. Dunno, I haven't seen one personally. Being that the Ranger kit is $2400 + install, and I hang out mostly with poor folk like myself, that might explain why.

PM nissanboy............he apparently has a master plan to replace his t-bars with load handling air shocks.

Same here i was thinking like getting some off of a truck at a junk yard and welding on some bracketts. Any ways if i was going to spend $2400 i would go for a solid axle conversion.

i'm replacing my t-bars with air bags thursday

my set up won't help you much though offroad

nissanboys plan to use Fox Airshocks will be on a SAS... I guess ti could be done wiht the IFS but you will need custom UCA's and reinforced if not custom LCA's not to mention a shock hoop extending well into the engine bay ot clear them.

NissanBoy you didn't tell me you were doing SAS. Mine will be done week after easter. Took me forever to find a cheap 44.

NissanBoy:

I coulda sworn in the chat you were talking bout Replacing the torsion bars with Air shocks, you seemed very sure of it, especially since you made it clear more than once bout you thinking IFS was better, and you were gunna put like a dana 44 IFS in it or something, i remmeber you saying you were working with a local custom 4x4 shop....

??

Yea, this is a 180 from what you were throwing around in the chat. You were gonna run those high dollar Porche CVs on your IFS with air shocks.

got to expensive to do in the panning stages... had to go for cost effectiveness. Wanted something unique but as it turns out unique got way to costly.

leave nissanboy alone, let him do what he pleases
