rjcooperss396 V6 to V8 Swap

Wow, those look awesome. I got my front double cardan back yesterday also. I got this one out of the junkyard orginally. There are a ton of those style front drive shafts around the junkyards I've been in.

p.s. I'm so jelous of the lack of rust on everything on your truck! I've had to either sandblast or wire wheel everything and then POR it to stop the rust. My drive shafts are all pitted too so they don't have that nice high gloss finish.

Yeah, it's nice not having rust. The '97 I used for the swap came from NY and everything was rusted. It sucked. I had to cut the floor on the passenger side so that I could get the inside exhaust collector bolt off.

Well, the rear driveshaft is too long so I dropped it back off today.

I picked up the rear driveshaft a couple days ago and had been working on installing the shifter for the transfer case. I finished it all up yesterday. Well except for making a shifter boot for it. Below are various pictures of the modified fuel tank mount, shifter, shifter linkage, etc. The shifter and shift linkage came out of a early to mid F250 and I had to modify it a lot to move the shifter closer to the center of the truck. I didn't take any pictures of it but I wish I would have because I made the arm that the shifter mounts to. The old one was about an inch and a half longer.

I spent the whole day today tracing wiring in the dash harness. The reason is because there were a few things that weren't working. One was the heater blend door. I could turn the heat on and have it blow on the floor but it would blow cold. Another issue was the controls rear blower motor weren't working. The final issue was that the digital temp/compass in the overhead display wasn't working. I figured that there had to be some wires in the dash harness I installed that didn't match the one from the donor truck. It turned out that they were all the same. So I started looking at the wiring diagrams that my brother printed up for me. I started with the blend door actuator and found the the power wire didn't have power. After some trouble shooting I ended up finding this:

That's right, I spent the whole day on an incorrectly installed fuse! When I pulled this harness from the wrecking yard it already had fuses in all the ports. So I just used my DMM to make sure none of them were blown. The ones that were I replced. Well this one wasn't blown but someone installed it crooked so one side had power but the other side didn't. So I replaced the fuse and now everything works. I just need to charge the A/C and I have heat and air again. Next up will be getting the BAR certification!

Awesome! That sucks about the fuse! At least it turned out to be an simple fix! My over head concle temperature doesn't work in my 97 mountaineer after I did the V8 to V6 swap in it. I know it has to do with the GEM module but I couldn't find the exact right one with the absolute right wiring. Where would I get the wiring diagrams to find out which wire I'm missing or what's wrong with it?

My brother used to be the service manager for a local Chevy dealer before he changed careers 2 years ago and is now a CHP officer. We went to his old shop and he printed them out off Mitchell On Demand.

You said that you swapped your 302 out of a 97 Explorer right? If so, what month was it built? There is a good possibility that it is the same wiring diagrams as my 97 Mountaineer, which was built in March of 97. If it is too much work it would be greatly appreciated if you could email those to me.

I'll scan what I have for you. PM me your email and I'll email the file to you. There are a total of 10 pages I believe.

So I called my brother about scheduling the BAR certification a couple days ago and he just happened to be working some overtime with BAR. Yesterday he had to go out to their headquarters in Valencia and while he was there he found out that they now have a ref in Rancho and they gave him the refs cell phone number to call and set up an appointment. So he's going to call him in the next few days to schedule us appointments to certify our trucks.

Switch the rims from the donor truck onto mine. The backspacing is less than the stock rims had so they stick out a bit further. I'm not sure if that is going to make them rub but we'll see.

I took it up Silverwood today to make sure everything works and it did great. We went to the top and then hiked around for a while.

Can we have a moment of silence for the loss of my nephews Eddie Bauer Explorer?

I took it to the scap yard today so it is no longer with us.

I bowed my head and then realized the double indignity Eddie is enduring... Not only is he taking his last ride, but that slow ride is given by a Cheby.........

Yes it was but on a good note after I dropped it off I picked up this.

It's my wifes 1964 F100 that her grandfather bought new. He gave it to her dad in 1981 just before he passed. It hasn't run since we've been together and that's been since 1994. He dad told her years ago that she could have it and we are finally at a point where we can start on it. The only part of the build that is going to piss off die hard Ford fans is that I'm putting a BBC 454 and TH400 in it.

Funny you should say that. The spare wheel is actually off a 1990 Ford Ranger prerunner that I owned back in the 90's that my nephew bought off me when he turned 16. He rolled it a couple years later and kept the spare tire. He had just bought these rims and had his dad ship him the spare from NY.
