I'd like to see that cross shaft arrangement too. I had to fight a broken bolt on a stock 8.8 once. I didn't have help to suggest something, but I did have spare parts. I drilled through the end of the cross shaft down to the 8mm bolt threads. It took a long time and I pray to never have that bolt break again. Good luck,

Here are some pics of what im looking at...

Interesting Sean, and there is a second bolt, on the other end of the shaft? Is that a special cross shaft, or is it a stock 8.8 part? How hard would it be to buy another shaft, and the bolts?

The other bolt isnt anywhere on the stock cross pin. Its wierd, its like it has its own pin. Hard to describe without actually seeing it. But im sure i can remove the center pin with just removing this bolt.

And its not 6 inches more like 4. I might have to get a really small drill bit and go at it this weekend. Getting another bolt will be an issue since ARB is backordered at least 4 weeks on them...

In the 2nd pic the other bolt is located in the far right opening that you can barely see...

It is a pain to deal with things like that, but it happens occasionally. At least you have it out of the vehicle where you can work on it easily. That is very helpful,

Did you find out if there is a hole on the back of the deck plane inline with that bolt?

I dont think I'm getting my ideas across completely but thats okay :)

So anyways, what's your plan of action on this piece? Drill out and easy-out?

Some might call me crazy, but clean it up real good and weld a stubby allen wrench to what's left of that bolt head. A good welder will be able to do it no problem as there's plenty of metal left. You just need to make sure you position the wrench in such a way that you can spin it all the way around once it's welded in place.

That's probably how I'd attack it...

Yeah i know a really good welder, we might do that but there isnt as much metal as it looks like.

If you're going to weld, be careful with heat -- I have no idea what type of "soft" parts the ARB unit uses for the pneumatic engagement but obviously you want to make sure you dont melt anything. But then again, you say you're going to rebuild so hopefully anything (if any) that melts is easily replaced.

Yeah after talking with some people i have ruled out the welding possibility. Not nearly enough bolt sticking out. So ill be buying a right angle drill and small drill bit to crack up the threaded part of the bolt. Then a small ez out to pull out the non threaded part. This kinda stuff isnt my cup of tea so wish me luck lol...

be very carefulll!!! This what we did with mine. We tried getting a welding rod in so we could just screw the rod out. we ended up bumping the threaded wall and screwing up the threads, and locking the pin in:rolleyes: Then i just spun it the other side and started hamering the pin out with a sledge. That why it's pushed through in the pic. Carriers are cheap...ARB's are not:(

Yeah thats why its got me kinda nervous. And i highly doubt i could retap the ARB carrier. Maybe i should just swallow my pride and take it to the shop and have them do it. At least i know they can do it without damaging the threads...
