I have a 2000 xls ohv with 3.55 gears. Would 32X11.5/15 's put too much stress on my 4.0 engine? I am going to need this explorer for several years and dont want to wear the engine down but do want bigger tires. I am goin to do the tt/shackl lift and then some trimming.

Thanks, but the gears kinda confuse me. What do they mean? Like whats the difference ?

the lower(higher numereically) gearing you have means better exceleration....the higher(lower numerically gears) mean higher top speed but less acceleration. lika a 4.10 will haul in a 1/4 mile but wont get you to 200 mph.......wheras a 3.05 wont win any drag races but will let you go fast on the top end.....

With 32" and 3.55, you will definitely lose the acceleration power and the ability to tow average load, going uphill will definitely be no fun and if you go wheeling, you could put more strain on your drivetrain and could end up breaking something.

If you're going with 32" and lift it, I would invest in new gears also (4.10).

Is that pretty expensive to get new gears? I hardly ever go offroading andlive in oklahoma where its pretty flat.

Yes, regearing could be expensive. The cost could run you upwards of $1500 for parts (gears and installation kits) & labor.

If you don't need to tow anything and your area is relatively flat, you could use the existing gear and see how you like the new set up. It's liveable but don't be surprise if it doesn't have any low end for acceleration or for passing. I looked at your signature and noticed that you have all that additional sound equipment, that already added some dead load on your X and with new larger tires, the performance will be very disappointing. You spent all that money on sound equipment to make it sound right, so I think it would be a good investment to do it right with the performance of your X also.

You could plan it and do it in sequence so you don't waste a lot of money or time (i.e. lift, tires/wheels, gears/lockers). It's a never ending story once you start. Most of us are in that predicament, we started and we can never stop. Only my thin wallet is preventing me from doing more to mine.

Its a nice sound system but ver cheap. My friend sold 2 kickers 12" to me for like $125 and they cost him like 350 and the amp is worth $800 but got it on a big sale for $250 so really the system only costed like $400. No I dont have nearly $1500 for gears so I will probley just get the little 1.75" lift with the the 32X11.5X15 and just deal with the acceleration problems. I am getting the KKM air filter and flowmasters in a couple days so that should help..

$1500 sounds a little high for gears to me. Maybe I am wrong, but I did a little looking and you might want to contact West Coast Differentials just to get an idea of what it might cost you.

They have a toll free number you could call to get a ball parl cost figure before you decide againt new gears. Hope this helps.

The $1500 is an estimate for both gears and installation of both differentials. It was about $1400 when I did it about 4-5 years ago for the whole thing (parts/material/intallation for both differentials). The installation was a little bit more expensive in the Dana 35 because they had to drop my lift kit to get to the pumpkin to install it. It would only the gears (gears and installation kits) cost if you can do the installation yourself and shop around more than I did. There weren't a lot of choices back when I bought mine so I went with the outlet I felt most comfortable with after talking with the person over the phone (Reider Racing).

Yea my dad conviced me to go to a&m and join the corps. I live in northern oklahoma but have visited it twice. Not sure how its goin to be!! A little scared i guess...Yea I know about the rivalry..pretty intense

It's going to be a lot of fun, as long as you keep it under control and within your limits. As long as you keep a good head on your shoulders and don't give in to peer pressure, it'll be the best time of your life. For sure, it's gonna be a little scary at first if you haven't lived away from home but it'll be alright in a few months.

The rivalry between Texas and A&M is intense but I think it's all in good fun, some people do tend to carry it too far and go over board though.

I hear that ROTC at A&M is very tough and extremely disciplined.
