How to: Seafoam Your 4.0 SOHC

Prefix for threads which are instructional.
i agree, i would only put it in my oil if i were going to change it very soon (in like 2 days), thats what i did.

ive also heard you may need to replace your plugs after, this is probably only true if your plugs are old or w/e. i dident change mine.

i never have either

mmmm i did the seafoam thing but i put some through the engine fluid cap??? its knocking should i just let it run or are there any other suggestions?

not much not even what was suggested (1/4) so less then that

anybody any other suggestions? i did an oil change and even did another seafoam to see if it would clear it up but nope nothing still knocking so if someone can maybe give me the worst case scenario since this is the daily driver and would like to get this fix as soon as posible :(

Which method did you use to get the Seafoam into your engine? I think IAC method is most effective (I used to have a SOHC).

We'll see if it still runs in another month or so. Seafoam kills more engines than it helps.

Just giving fair warning.

Just giving fair warning.

Warning for what? I've been using Seafoam for a several years across two Explorers and two different engines (5.0 and SOHC 4.0). I consider myself a Seafoam newbie compared to several on this site. I also use it on my wife''s Subie Outback. I have yet to see any issues whatsoever. I even use a full can as opposed to the 1/3 they recommend on the can.

Your comments are baseless. Seafoam's products have a GREAT reputation and that reputation is deserved. I've had amazing results in the past including a very difficult ping issue that got taken care of by Seafoam.

okay ppl im not knocking seafoam ive used it before plenty of times.... and i will continue to use it if i have a car to use it in......anyway this is the whole scenario breakdown.... i was bored at work slow as usual, what a man to do with time in his hands and boredom+ a bottle of seafoam? exactly make use of it.. actually it was maybe less then half the bottle which even then i did not pour the whole thing. anyway i let the car idle for about 15 minutes then checked gauges,, nice an warm. i used the crankcase method and brake booster. poured a lil in the crankcase and then the brake booster cable the usual that i do....might i remind you i just purchased this truck in february 09and has driven like a dream...anyway i let it sit for a while cranked it and heard the knocking i let it run for a while thinking it would go away but nope..as far as how the car runs it still runs great maybe even a little better picks up a lil quicker but its knocking other than that im not getting any problems w/ it turning on cutting off on me nothing same as before but knocking.. i got an oil change but still there i even bought some gunk additive that cleans valves for knocking noises...etc and still the same so what shall i do?

oh and the specs are 2000 xlt 4x4 sohc 4.0 v6

Is it a solid knock or more of a tick sound?

lol knock or tick its the same, do you mean is it constant? yes it is constant and gets quicker with the accelaration. had the mechanic at my job take a look at it. i told him exactly what happen. he said the car is running to good for somthing to be broken inside so it might be that something got stuck after the seafoam did its job. he said to try a bottle of cd-2 for loud engine noise he said give it couple days and if that doesnt work he said it might be the rear tensioner?

Yeah the seafoam probably gunked up a lifter. Run some Restore or whatever the mech. said to.

I feel pretty stupid asking this, but what exactly does seafoam do?

Ive seen vid's on youtube of it, and the people start theyre trucks and smoke just pours outta the exhaust..doesnt seem like it'd be too good to do lol

ok looking at your pic for the IAC method i have a question. does that hose just pop out thus enabling you to put in the pvc t joint or do i have to cut the hose and than rig it back together? i assume the hose just comes out of the intake.....?
