I was looking at my X the other day, and I got thinking...that rear door handle is pretty ____ ugly! Then I thought about the keyhole right below it. That keyhole has *never* been used...EVER. I would love nothing more than to get rid of that door handle and keyhole. I know it would be a lot of work & $$ (which I am lacking right now) but how cool would that be?! Anyway, I'm just wondering if anybody has done this before? Any suggestions how to do it? Of course I would still want it to be a fully functional rear hatch. Thanks!

Curtis, I would understand about the keyhole, but why do you want to take the door handle out? How can you open the liftgate or the liftgate glass?? (I'm assuming you're talking about the liftgate, right?)

If you want it to still be fully functional you are going to have to keep the handle on. Or maybe you can have it modified to make it smaller. Who knows, if you have the $$$ anything is possible.

I know someone posted a few weeks ago with a friend who had the hatch shaved. He had actuators to open the glass and door. It was expensive.

I was thinking about having actuators to open the glass and the hatch....just like when people shave their door handles. Anybody know anything about these "actuators"?

good actuators will cost about $245 each. if you buy a cheap one you will regret it (they are more likely to jam).

I've always wanted a power roll-down window found in 4-runners and broncos. However, I think it would require too much work.

My rear handle requires a lot of effort to turn. You would have to get a strong actuator or a massive lever.

What about replacing the handle with a small metal cylinder? You could insert some sort of T-handle in it to turn it when you want to open it up. It might have a color-keyed snap-on cover that sits flush. That would make it a lot less obtrusive.

Thoughts?

A power window would be really cool.

A power rear window would be very cool. If anybody figures out how to do it, let me know! I've been wanting to roll down my rear window since I got my X.

Don't do it ...

My S-10 has shaved door handles and tailgate . It's the biggest pain in the arse . It's exspensive to have done and to fix everytime they screw up . If I knew then what I know now , I would've invested the money into sumthin' else .... I have friends in the same situation .

What are you doing with a CHEVY anyway?????????????
LOL

Shaved handles are not what they are cracked up to be. What I did is paint the handles the same color as the truck and that helps hide the looks a lot.

OK....scratch that idea. I just wanted a better look...certainly not worth so much $$ or problems. I do like the idea of cutting down the size of the door handle and having some type of key to open the hatch.

Thanks for the warning!
