Shipping the X, Questions

Looking for some pointers, advice, stories, etc.
Shipping my X crosscountry, the company called AAA Transport is picking it up this Saturday. Yes i am NERVOUS! What sort of things should I pay attention to when they tie it down? Anyone use this company in the past? I had to take my roof rack off to meet thier 6'6" hieght restriction, I am now at 6'2". They said this restriction in needed becouse of bridges, overpasses, Burger King drive thru's and such. Sorry this is so long, Hate the thought of putting the security of the X in someones elses hand, When I shipped my truck in the military, I got to see them put it in the shipping Conex and seal the door, with this mode of trans, the will have to move my truck at almost every stop to accmodate the other vehicles....I know I am rambling

I actually bought my mustang from a guy in New Jersey and had it shipped here. I was extremely nervous and as a result I went with a smaller company, this way the car is put on the trailer in NJ and is not transfered from truck to truck along the way. Made me feel safer, but everything worked out well in the end. I used Top of the Bay Transport. They were cheap, but the other cars on the trailer were a new SLK, an M3, two other BMW's and a corvette. They are all insured anyway, so you shouldn't have any real problems, but it is nerve racking.

mine was around 700 if I remember correctly. I went through a shipping broker.

I've never shipped a car and hopefully will never have to. But I have a question. I wouldn't trust anyone but me and MAYBE my father to drive my explorer (father in law picked it up from a tranny shop, when I got in the blower was on full, 4x4 was engage...he had better not been driving on just wet pavement). Would it be a good idea to take a bunch of pictures of your truck, fenders, bumpers, doors...everything that could get dinged dented scratched whatever? THat way if you get it back and see a big gash in the door they can't just say it was there when we got it. I don't know though, just wondering.

They are required by law to do a bill of lading on every vehicle they ship. They inspect it when they get it and and then the reciever has to inspect it when they recieve it. As a result they pay very close attention to the condition of the vehicle before it goes on the truck, if they don't they would be held liable when the reciever notices something wrong that wasn't on the bill of lading.

Thanks for the replies, The X cost me 892 from California to Ohio, did alot of research and most companies were within $20-30 of each other. I plan on taking digitals and burning them to CD and mailing to my mother, she will be taking delivery as the X will get back there faster than me. Hope all goes well...still nervous tho

my grandpa shipped his 1930's model A coupe across the country when he bought it..it arrived without one scratch

if u aree still looking for companys i could call him and ask him what company he used

ot was a 1 truck thing like somoene else sad they loaded it on one rig and it never moved the keys stayed in a lock box that my grandpa had the key for

Hey fellow troop,
I actually tried to use AAA to ship a truck from Arkansas to Nevada. I waited for over 30 days for them to just schedule a date to pick up the truck and they never did. I was able to get my money back and went to Dependable Auto Shippers. I will just say that they were AWESOME! My vehicle was scheduled for pick up with a day or two and arrived in Nevada a day early. They also have online tracking with GPS so you can see exactly where your vehicle is at all times. I came to find out that AAA is more of a broker. They do not have very many trucks whereas I think that DAS mainly uses their own trucks. When I did my research on shipping, AAA was highly recommended so I went with them. Just based on my experience, I would not recommend them to move my lawn mower out of my garage, but hey that's just me. Hopefully everthing works out for you. If your Ex is on the bottom of the transport, expect it to be very dirty and possibley have oil stains from the car above it. Another thing about DAS is that I do not think they moved my truck once it was on the transport. Let us know how it turns out.
