My 94 Mazda Navajo automatic has a nasty leak at the transmission cooler line directly below the radiator shroud where the two lines pass over each other. I know the metal line is leaking because I can feel the hole. The leak came about because the water pump bearing burned itself up and started spraying coolant out of the weep hole. I pulled the radiator and when I did I must have tweaked the line and put a hole as those lines are fairly rusty.

I was thinking I could slip a rubber hose over and seal it. Would sawing the old section out and putting in a brass compression fitting work better? Just so I know I am talking about the right thing a compression fitting is a center barrel piece with threaded ends that bridges the gap where the old pipe is cut out and you put two caps with two small rings and that clamps down and seals the line correct? Any issue with using this on a rusty line or do I just sand it down clear off the rust and put the fitting in?

I don't have access to a garage and my car is parked on the street in Boston. This is going to be a road side repair just like the water pump was.

Thanks in advance.

if the lines are rusted as bad as they sound just do rubber line an hose clamps.3/8 hose btw

nope. just put on an extra couple of inches. but if they are really frail you should have them replaced with new steel line

transmission line on my 92 just started leaking right after the 90 bend coming off the transmission.

dunno exactly what i'm gonna do yet, but what size are the metal lines coming off the transmission?

my transmission lines are about shot too. I was wondering if anyone knew which size fittings i will need for both lines at the radiator, and at the transmission.

I have a 25 foot roll of 5/16 coated steel line and a flare tool. I just need to know which fittings i need to buy to custom bend my own and have them bolt up. i suppose i could use the old fittings, but id rather get new.

transmission lines

When it comes to the lower line on the transmission that runs directly to the radiator, could anyone tell my the total length of that line? From fitting to fitting.
