By slow start... do you mean it turns over slow? takes a while to ignite and start?
Turns over slow could be a weak battery even if its new, poor/corroded battery connections or bad cables to the battery and ground.
Takes a while to start could be weak fuel pressure, dirty fuel filter, etc.

Yeah because of that crappy gas now compared to when these were built! Those old pumps won't last without much lubrication because of EPA regulations.
