Something w/ rabbits. 72.5 pages of BS

Ahaha well I'll change it when I take the seat come Jan 20.

The goal is to make it look Explorer-ish -- not exactly sure what that's going to lead to but maybe some Explorer or Ranger-ish headlights (Ranger decals are readily available from FiberWerx and the likes). I'm also going to try to keep the rear hatch although it will be gutted, tubed and moved forward a bit so there's not much hanging past the rear tire.

Right now I'm sorting through the wheel/tire combo -- I really want the Maxxis 40 Creepies but its only available in 17s. So I'm probably going to just suck it up and buy some High Impact 17" wheels. At $215 each ($250 regularly minus the $35 off for a set of 4 or more), that's a bargain. Either that or buy a set of Cragar Soft 8s and a beadlock kit.

High Impact 17x9.5 beadlock w/ 3.5" backspacing 8x6.5 pattern at $250 each:

$35 off sale:

Oh yeah that sounds like a good canidate for the ol' visa. I think those chome wheel's with the black beedlock would fit right.Defentley with all the time and sweet thoughts brought to the build.
My wife would shoot me for spending that much on wheels this close to chrismas.

I'm probably going to go with the black wheels and maybe have JTsmith to coat em something more appealing to rabbits (my main audience and costumer).

I vote for buy steelies and weld on's, I did mine in a few hours and they worked great, never slipped or burped or anything. The ones I mig welded leaked a little but could easily hold 5lbs for a few weeks. The ones I did with tig never leaked.

The ones i FCAW'd wouldnt hold long over 25psi, but would hold 25psi or under for weeks... they leaked maybe 2psi a month. Just remember torqing them down right takes FOREVER. With an air ratchet... it STILL TAKES FOREVER lol. :p:

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to mock up a cardboard wheel this week (thanks for the tip over chat DB1) and see if a 3.5" backspaced 17" wheel with a [cardboard] 40" tire will rub a dub dub on the linky link link.

If it does, I'll either build some bent links (been researching this for the past week) or downsize to 38" Creepies -- which is actually avaiable for a 15" wheel so this route is very attractive since I can still fit 3" or so backspaced 15" wheels over the d60 after switching it over to the Chevy 3/4-ton rotors and calipers (same exact one I used on the Wagoneer D44).

I just hope this axle doesnt come out too wide or else I'll need two trailers side by side to tow the Explorer on.

after a bit of catching up in this thread all i can say is your seriously not well

and i mean that in a good way

Its been a while!

Finished up the front whatever this is -- plated up the upper link thing and added the mount and protection for the winch fairlead. Uber-massive unsprung weight!

Then started on the skeleton of the rear panhard mount / upper link mount:

hmmm damn is there even a front axle in that conglomeration?:p:

"Uber-massive unsprung weight!!"?

Understatement.

This thing's gonna be 8000 lbs when it's done! (I'll let you count sprung & unsprung).

you are insane!!

Thanks guys!

Yes there is, and $20 goes to whoever can find the rabbit hiding in that picture, kidding :)

Yeah, looks like I personally need to go on a diet to offset the added weight ;). But its massive cauz I'm trying to move as much of the weight to the unsprung side (and low). Yeah its going to ride like crap at high speed but hopefully it'll help the vehicle from rolling over.

Wow, that's..................... Ummmm................WOW!

Badass, yet an arcitectual wonder, great work sir!

Jeff - :navajo:

Art Vandelay trackbar mount is sick!
