Spdrcer34 is going V8!....

I went ahead and ordered one of those adapters Ryan.

So you might want to hold off till it gets here and I can check it.

Sweet. I was worried that it would be hard to find the part.

I will be trying summit "truck" headers.

They were the only ones I found that had a steep enough down angle on the drivers side header. The pipes look spread out enough to get a socket on the slark plug. And if not I'll just have to pull the headers for spark changes, oh well.

the truck headers won't work on your passenger side. The collector dumps directly on top of the frame rail. My frame was trimmed and it still was way off from being doable. The drivers side works great however. Just trying to save you some money. Been there, done that, spent money, wasted money. I swear, half my budget went to trial and error.

Well damn.

What did you use wicked?

Wicked's profile on the forum says he has a 351 though... maybe that's the difference. Don't know how much larger the 351 is physically to the 302, but maybe?

Very true. The 351's are the ones known for the exhaust problems.

If nothing else I'll bolt the summit headers onto the block and beat them into a better position. I'm not lookin for pretty on these things. Hell I could cut the tubes by the flange and re weld it into a different angle if I have too.

Unless I find d some other headers that might work.

I may just break down and buy the Advance adapter manifold thingy. It's shiny and not terribly expensive.

Woah. Just realized I was hijaking ryans thread. Sorry.

I don't mind at all. Seriously. We've all done it to your thread. But it definitly get's people talking, and thinking.

I just hope that our threads (yours, and mine) will be as helpful to other people, as Fortune410's have been to me.

Thanks guys...

Ryan

yeah i plan on redoing my thread once i'm finished. break the swap into chapters kind of a how too thing like glaciers 4r70w thread that gathers all the info into one spot and focuses on explorers instead of rangers and broncos. that plus josh's book ought to bee good readin!

while were in the business of hijacking... weeell nevermind ill Pm you.

oh and nevermind about AA's header/manifold thing they sell that advertised as being for toyota swaps now, but i think it would still work for an explorer: (strangely enough, summit still has these listed as for bronco 2/rangers...)

for explorers they now have just long headers that are like 300$ (does it look to anyone else that that is a picture of two pass side sets?)
2008081112395265218_med.jpg

id rather go with james duff's tuned length set for cheaper.: 240$ (though i dont know if thats acually ceramicoat or just silver paint.)

these are the summit truck headers i was talkin about, see how theyve got lots of spark plug room?:

Those last truck ones....

Is that an O2 port, or the EGR port on the Pass. header?

Ryan

both headers have o2 ports in the collector.

wow TMH are looking better all the time! LOL especially if you have 5.0 explorer down pipes with 02 sensors and cats already to work with

long tube headers would kick ass!
Call Duff on those suckers, they may very well be an older AA part though, Duff is a AA dealer

I email duff about those headers.

If I like there response I may go with them.

email Duff? might be 2010 before you get a response! I would call them, they have always been VERY helpful to me on the phone

if they don't email me back today I'll call them tomorrow.

I'm excited for you guys, I know what its like to go through all this, LOTS of $$$$, lots of work, lots of trial and error, lots of work

But man I have been driving my BII with V8 since 2005 and its WORTH IT
The GT-40 5.0L and 4r70w are a dream come true for us RBV owners

So all those times you are sick of wrenching, the trans isnt going in smooth, the exhaust wont fit right, etc etc just keep plugging away....its oh so worth it!
Even Josh (Moab BII) would probably tell you its 100% worth it and he had to go through hell, seriously hell, to get his done right

Yeahmy dad keeps Tellin me not to get fed up with the whole process.

That's the last thing that gonna happen. The only time I have fun is when I'm wrenchin.

I can't wait till I can start dropin the thing in. This sitting around waiting for money drives me nuts.

You see those people on tv who won the lottery talkin about goin back to work cause they are bored...

I don't know what's wrong with them... But j could never be bored with unlimited funds.

There are sooooo many projects runnin around in my head I just don't have the money for yet.

I'm sure your the same way wanting to get going on the b2's cage.

Dammit I'm hijacking again.

I could have done my conversion in two weeks if I had all the money up front (about $6500) LOL paycheck to paycheck conversions are the only way man! Its the American way!

A 351 and 302 in F150 uses the same y-pipes. In other words, the collectors end up in the same spots on both setups. Because the 351 is slightly wider, the manifolds for a 351 have longer runs to bring the collector back down to the y-pipe collector position. So, if you have a 302, you need to use 302 manifolds and likewise for 351 engines.
I tried Mustang headers (work but must trim frame rails - not favourable)
Truck headers (Passenger side dumps into middle of frame rail - Doesn't work)
Currently using stock Explorer 5.0 manifolds (fit great - not great for performance but you would not know it!)

Well darn. I guess conversion headers it is for me.

Are you using the cast manifolds or the goddawful, abominnation to humankind stamped steel ones?

Hey Ryan, there is a set of Hedman conversion headers for a ranger on eBay for 170$.

I don't know about the pass side looks like it might interfere with the ttb but you might want to check em out. Search for "ranger header swap"

There us also a set of cast manifolds from a stock explorer for 35$ if you want to go that route. They are better than the stamped ones.

I'm gonna wait and talk to James duff.

I've C-notched my frame...I'm not worried about trimming the frame..

There are more Mustang Header Options than anything else out there.

For long tube headers, Mustang Tri-Y headers work for 2WD, I'm not sure of anyone that has gotten them to work with AWD/4WD.
