Speeding ticket and my defense is..

Not listed at all..Is the device you mentioned a problem?

I was pulled over 4 years ago for the first time ever and the cop said I was doing 82mph, even though my speedo and GPS had me at 72mph and I had been doing that speed for about 70 miles and passed 3 other troopers. Did some research on the gun and found out I was not the only one who had been clocked going a considerable amount faster then what they were actually doing. However, the ticket I received was about 300 miles away from where I lived so paying the $250 ticket was cheaper then fighting it or hiring a lawyer. Cop was a dick about it too.

AFAIK those are illegal in all states.

AFAIK those are illegal in all states.

They double as front and rear parking sensors, so it's pretty easy to get away with them.

I dont use any radar or laser detectors because I drive an Explorer, but If I had a vehicle where speeding was an option I'd have a V1 and Blinders for sure.

I don't know, you might be able to get away in some places. When i moved from Arizona to Virginia, it took me 4 speeding tickets to get used to the new "environment"...
Now I KNOW that at 9 mph over I don't get pulled over. And my Garmin is always "on" with the latest "enforcement points" updated.

Virginia is not the norm for the US. I will never drive in Virginia unless it's on my way to a state further south on 95.

If you've been ticketed in VA for speeding, all I can say is "thanks for the dough".

It was funny when VA legislators tried to impose "super" fines on VA residents... that's for electing them.

I've never been behind the wheel in Virginia.

Virginia claims to be a Commonwealth, not a State.

The last time I got a ticket was for not wearing a seat belt. Which I wasn't when the Trooper passed me but I buckled it when he turned around. He gave me the ticket anyways. When I went to court I told the Judge the Trooper must have mistaken me for someone else and told her I wasn't going to sit here and call a State Trooper a liar because they have a busy job and I'm sure he did think I wasn't wearing it and was just doing his job. The Judge gave me a 6 month conditional discharge, no fine and sent me on my way. I kinda felt bad for getting out of it so easy. But it went away in a day or so.

If you have a fairly clean license just go to Court and if anything explain that the PO had changed the tires and you just found out because you checked it after you got the ticket and the speedo is off 5 MPH, and that you wouldn't have been speeding had you known. Tell them you're on disability and don't have any money to pay a ticket. I'm sure they'll cut you some good break

On the other hand. If you go into Court with the Perry Mason know it all attitude, they will find you guilty of speeding at trial. And for making such a big deal of it they'll give you the max fine. Choice is yours how you handle it.

THIS!!
I'm pretty sure the OP has already had his day in court today, but jremington's post is right on.
Especially the last paragraph.

In other words, when they forget they are public servants, proving they were wrong only makes them vindictive.

especially if you were on even the slightest downhill... with all 2.5 tons of your exploder moving you could hit that speed... sorry mate...

In minnesota ill drive 9 mph over all day. city or highway and never get touched..

Same here in NY. Might be the same for the OP as he said he was 13 over. They'll get you here for that in a Village.

they changed the law in GA a couple of years ago. i think it's now just 5 MPH over now. it really doesn't matter. it's just an excuse to stop you. while i was living in CT i was 8th in a line of about 10 vehicles. we were all doing about the posted speed limit. there was a slower speed limit sign hidden by a low hanging tree branch, which reduced the speed limit by 10 MPH. of course, that's right where a cop was hiding (obvious speed trap) and guess who the only one who got ticketed was? just me. i guess i could have fought it, but i figured it's just karma for all the hundreds of times i was speeding and never got caught. fight it if you like (what do you have to lose?) or just pay it and move on.

Honestly between the idiot drivers here in Va and the law enforcement thinking they make the laws I want to put a on-dash camera in all of my vehicles. Who needs a witness when its on tape?

This was my 2nd court date that was supposed to be set for trial according to what the judge said at the 1st date...He set it for trial again for 8-12..I humbly explained that I did not think the alleged speed was correct, and I simply wanted to explain why..I realize that they may be used to having folks be intimidated and fear retribution, but I don't give a ****..I am going to exercise my right to have my say regardless, respectfully of course..I suck at math...so does anybody have a formula that can estimate the ET of my 98 Ex. if it reached 107.5 mph in the 1320..? I'm thinking of looking for the Mustangs timeslips to use as a comparison..

Same here in NY..

Unless you are on the Thruway and the Trooper's Stalker Dual Pro is uncalibrated and you're doing 72 in a 65 and he write you for 82...

I do 5 over all day long with no problems on the highways on Long Island.

You certainly have that right.

You can't use math and physics to explain your case unless you talk only about absolutes with your vehicle and the conditions. Physics requires exact provable measures. Also, 1/4 mile times aren't relevant unless you were clocked exactly 1/4 mi from the stop. You can't mix something precise like physics and something hypothetical like comparative Mustang times in your defense.

I never said that no one should ever be intimidated, nor not defend themselves from false accusations. But in your OP you said the cop clocked you at 48 but wrote you for 43. He did this because the fine and points are less with 10 over the speed limit. I gave you my opinion based on the law and how you can work the Courts for a non moving violation and a much lesser fine.

As for the way you are trying to figure speeds, it doesn't work that way. When I turn the corner on my road there is a sign that's exactly 2/10ths of a mile. Accelerating normally I shift into OD at 60 MPH. In another example, when I leave my drive there is a fire hydrant 400 feet down the road. In normal acceleration I'm doing just under 40 MPH. So in 200 more feet I'm probably going to be between 45 and 50 at that point. But that doesn't mean I'm going to be doing 100 MPH at 1200 feet. Your RPM's are higher in the lower gears, so you accelerate quicker.
