Split Armrest Issue

I have the same problem on my 2013 Explorer drivers armrest. I have extended warranty, took it to dealer--not covered. I don't really want to pay for entire door panel. Thought I might try a glue and pressure, but I don't want to mess it up. Suggestions??

Welcome to the Forum.:wavey:
It seems some members have had success in either getting it replaced under warranty or gate partial cost coverage. I believe that was under the Factory warranty. ESP will not cover it. If you read through the posts here, you will find that some used crazy glue to fix it and others had an auto upholstery shop repair it. According to them, it wasn't that expensive.
Good luck.

I get to join the crappy year in crappy armrest club too. 30k miles, rear of the driver side armrest starting to tear. Currently about 1 inch. I took into dealer w
Who has gotten approval from Ford to replace. Unfortunately I also have tears in my center armrest cover - did denied the request to replace that.

Does anyone have any idea where to get a kit to replace that?

2012 Explorer Limited arm rest split

I have the same problem only my kilometres are at 140000
They won't cover it even thought I am still within my extended warranty
My extended warranty ends at 150000 :( :( :(

I don't know which ESP you have but here is an excerpt from the PREMIUMCare ESP as to what is NOT covered;
fabric, liners, fasteners, carpets, dash pad, wiper blades, knobs, trim, upholstery, physical damage or cosmetic issues,

Is there any way to fix it without replacing the door panel

There is another thread about a splitting seam in the armrest which is a bit different than the armrest coming apart from the door. Some members have used crazy glue to repair that or have taken the vehicle to an upholstery shop for what they said was in inexpensive repair. Here is the link to that thread; http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=375371&highlight=armrest
You could try sending a PM to Kwasi (FordServiceCA) to see if there is anything that he can do to help out; http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=233337
When you PM, be sure to include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership in your message.
Good luck.

Have same splitting door panel problem. Is this worth pursuing if my 2011 has over 90,000 miles?

I doubt you'd get anywhere with trying to get Ford to fix this now. There are a few that have used crazy glue that appears to do the trick.

Same Tear

2013 Sport with 21K

Noticed it yesterday, did not call dealer yet. Wanted to see if anyone else had the issue here. And OF COURSE they do! I am trading this **** box in this weekend!

LOL. Good luck on the trade if that really ends up being what you do.

Found a 2015 R/T Durango that I think will fill in nice for my blacked out hunk of crap Sport. 2013 21K miles, hoping they give me 34K as per KBB. I owe 20K and the Durango comes in at 46K.

Hopefully they don't drive it too hard, just noticed the rotors must be warped, starting to shake a bit on the brakes. Seems like something new every week.

And you think moving into a Dodge is going to be an improvement???!!!:bsnicker::bsnicker::help::help:
LMAO....

So you went to Dodge for higher build quality?

Check the resale values, not KBB, what the real world gives.

This just happened to me, I am going to try fishing line stitch and crazy glue. Will report back. I would do some research before jumping on the Dodge, I really liked its stats, but I had owned a Liberty and at a certain point the entire car just imploded with every sub-system breaking, one after another.

Fishing line will rip thru it right away. You can see how thin it is, it wont hold line. Better off trying glue or some kind of vinyl repair kit made for auto/home.
Shame that this is happening.

No complaints of paint falling off and the door panels are real leather stitched so yeah! Lololololol
