I have recently developed a squeak that is very noticible. I can't hear it from the front of the engine but just from underneath the truck. I've checked all the pulleys and replaced both the idler and tensioner. The only thing that makes the squeak go away is if I put the truck in neutral. In neutral the squeak is gone, but in drive at idle it immediatly returns. I can't hear it if I accelerate the truck. Any ideas?

As I recall there was an improperly sized hole in a separator plate used next to the valve body. The transmission whined when in drive but stopped in neutral.

It's not fatal. I think the fix involves pulling the valve body and either replacing or drilling out a particular hole on this separator plate.

I have the same problem. It start squeaking when the driveshaft is under load. I lifted the truck and placed it on jackstands then turned it on pressed the e-brake and put the trans in drive. Then told my wife to slowly accelerate so the wheels turn with load and went under it and notice that the noise was on one ends of the driveshaft. I was told that it could be the universal joints. Please let me know if that is because tomorow I'm planning to buy them.
