steering rack

i need some help with my steering rack its leaking power steering fluid all over my drive way. I looked at my steering rack and one of the boot is cut/riped up in its all wet from the power fluid do i need to get the whole thing new steering rack or did i need a Rack & Pinion Boot Kit. i will put up some pictures for you can see what i am talking about.:navajo:

A boot will just keep dirt and debri away from shaft, this may have caused the leak but replacing it will not fix it. You can try power steering stop leak but I would guess that you will need to replace the steering rack. You can get a rebuilt one for $130 and up at parts store.

You will need to get an alignment after replacing the rack.

thanks for your input i was trying to take a picture i my camera was not work right. i will go in replace the steering rack. And i have to get an alignment? why is that there is no Suspension work.

The rack has tie rods which go onto the spindles. The adjustment of the tie rods controls the exact angle these spindles are facing. If one or more are "out of alignment", you will feel the vehicle pull to one side.

First-try a bottle of "Lucas power steering stop leak"

It may help quite a bit, or even stop the leak-

i did used that power steering stop leak in it did not work so i am going to take the off rack. I got the rack from pepboys for $114.99 with a $70 core that i think is a good price did think its a good price? i just started to work on it. again thanks for your inputs on this Q

What year is your Ranger? Your profile says a 96. My manual says all Rangers pre 98 had the steering box-pitman arm-tierods setup, not rack and pinion. Am I just confused by your term 'steering rack', or do you have another Ranger, or ?
