- 97 Mountaineer AWD
Hello all,
Wanted to post this in case someone else is having the same problem; The accelerator on my 97 Mountaineer would stick (before depressing) requiring enough pressure that you could easily surge forward when it released causing an accident especially in stop and go traffic. There seems to be some recall on 4 litre engines for this problem but not on this one.
The problem is easily solved with a toothbrush and a can of carb cleaner; Remove the air intake hose from the throttle body and have someone or something depress the accelerator or linkage opening the valve in the throttle body. Spray carb cleaner inside the opening and clean all around the area where the valve would rest if it were closed with the brush. 5 minutes total--problem solved.
Beats the $800 Ford charges to fix this and better yet an accident...
