The situation:

I was driving home from the Bronx (NY) when I got stuck in traffic before the toll gate on the bridge. Seeing that I didn't have an easy-pass I was forced in the Cash Only line. I turned to my right to notice a green, probably '97 V8 XLT X-plr. I didn't think anything much of it until he started showing off! Revving, gasing forward, etc. It just happens that we both got to the teller at the same time...

The outcome:

Knowing that I also have a '97 V8 XLT (except it's AWD), I said to myself: "let's go!" We took off... I glanced over to my right, he was slowing falling behind (doing 60 already). We stopped at about 70. Since I beat him off the line, and the price of gas these days, and the fact that I probably get 8 mpg, I said that's enough... It was fun. So far, I'm 1 for 1.

P.S.

I also have a '88 5.0 LSC (Lincoln). I think my stats are around 10 for 12. Oh, if you haven't guessed... I love racing.

Be careful when taking on a "showoff" it could be an unmarked cop just pushing you. I know a Hwy. Patrol officer back in Arizona that drove either an unmarked Camaro or a '98 Explorer V8, and if he knwe that you were the type to race he would push you into it then pop you for speeding. I know it sounds like entrapment (wich it is to a point), but most idiots wouldn't fight the ticket and just pay the fine. For thoes that did fight it, the judge usually settled with the cop. So, next time someone tries to get you to race you might look to see if you can spot the badge!

Thanks

I never knew about undercover cops pushing you into a race, sounds understandable though. I have a real problem with driving at or a little above the speed limit. I'm going to have to try realing hard to ease off the gas. Thanks for the advice.

Goin South

I don't know about now,but I spent a couple of years down south some time ago and the cops thrive on stuff like that.
I got off easy! I got pulled over for running a yellow lite and ended up getting into a fist fight with the cop. Spent the night in jail. Next day the Judge let me off with a $350 fine and made me promise not to beat up the cop during my remaining time in the US. I had a good lawyer and was headed overseas in a week. Talk about lucky. Man was that cop pissed, he was in the court room.
(Cop started the fight, sucker punched me while he was frisking me). Had to get that in.
