Supercharged 4.0L SOHC

Im going to fabricate a plate for it to mount up to, add silicone hoses for flexabilty, and i may have to add a pully, but running low boost you only have to run 92 octane the computer, fuel pump, and injectors can handle "LOW BOOST" dont think your going to run 1bar. youll cook your pistons and blow the motor into shrapnel

Just out of curiosity

¿What kind of Ford employee are you? Not that I am trying to insult your intelligence or anything but I don't know you. I mean, I am sure you aren't someone like this little Gofer (go for this, go get that) boy who worked for our local Ford dealership and used to come into Auto Zone all the time. And I sure hope you don't just sweep the floors or somthing. ¿Do you work in engineering? ¿Do you work in parts? ¿Do you work in the service department? ¿Do you just work sales? ¿what DO you do for Ford?

Just saying you work for Ford period isn't going to help your case, especially if you work at a dealership.

I work in the parts department at a major dealership in Boston. and i have acces to the bays equipment, mechanics are more than willing to help me. I was a mechanic for 3 years so im no amature either.

ive built up my last 3 cars, my 91 Lincoln Mark VII LSC Special Edition was a trophy winner with a 5.0 Cobra motor. Ive owned my 97 explorer since it was new but ive never done any mods to it ive been to busy with my 91 300zx twin turbo

yeah, well you need pics to back up this stuff. no way around that on the net.

Hey Doug 904

Is that a 4.0 SOHC? ¿How much did that SC set you back?

Yeah it s 4.0 SOHC, I picked up the supercharger, aftercooler, and pipeing for $200

Yes, it is a 01' SOHC with a HO Paxton Sn-series supercharger and a PWR intercooler.

I've personally delt with 3 other SOHC's with superchargers and even build ups. All of the others I've messed with have used the Eaton MP90 not the M90. The MP90 is a latter design which is 10 times better then the M90's older style.

I work for Ford as well, actually in a Ford Fleet repair shop. I'm a tech there, not a parts guy. I'm a Ford Master Tech, ASE auto and truck Master tech and I hold an associate's degree in Automotive technology but even so with that said everyone can't realize who I am over the internet. So where's the proof like everyone usually asks, I'm glad to show it.....

02' White Edge with a MP90

Hey, how about some engine internal pics since your gonna run 10 psi of boost without any kinda intercooler? I got news for ya, anything more then 4-5 psi and she'll ping like a sailor on the stock engine programming. Actually she'll ping before 4-5 psi you just won't hear it, by the time you hear it it's too late.

Stock SOHC out of the truck

SOHC with low compression pistons

Low compression ratio, ported and polished, fully balanced SOHC on drugs, any questions??

Before you go spouting about what your gonna do its safer and easier to ask questions about how to do it. I know companies that can make your computer programming work with boost levels below 10psi. I also know what size injectors your going to HAVE to have to run any kind of boost along with MAF size.

Let me say this much for certain, if your trying to supercharge your SOHC for cheap your not gonna do it. The supercharger maybe the cheap part but the parts and tuning your going to have to have isn't. If I didn't know what I was doing I would take the safe and easier route and go with Explorer Express's kit other wise get ready to buy an 4.0.

OWNED

owned is right-

i could have posted that but have no way to back it up, thanks for coming in and setting things straight man.

Well I didn't really mean to come accross like that but it does get to me when guys don't wanna ask the necessary questions but instead tell you how they're gonna do it and how your opinions don't matter.

I encourage any one to supercharge their SOHC, actually I know of another company thats making yet another actual KIT for an SOHC, can't say anything right now to that matter sorry guys. Anyway, if you have access to the parts and machine work go for it just don't be blind sided by the costs, its not gonna be a $250 job I don't care how good you are.

Hmmm....

I sure am learning a lot and leaning more towards a EE Supercharger. Hey, this is gonna sound stupid but, ¿What is the advantage of low compression pistons and rings?

Compression ratio is basically how much the air/fuel mixture is compressed in the cylinder before it explodes and pushes the piston down. The smaller the space (and higher compression), the more force the explosion exerts on the piston and the more power you can make. However, forced induction motors favor lower compression because it is safer and less likely to knock.

I kinda

I kinda figured it was something like that. I just wasn't for sure.

thats y this site exists, and i can't wait to see if this thing actually runs....wait for some pics man....

adam

So how long do you suspect this project will take you? 1 week?!!

Doug or anyone else,
slightly off topic, but i did an automatic to manual trans swap on the SOHC and am still running on my stock computer which is giving me some minor problems. do you have any recommendations on a fix?

Bones, there are wiring differences between the auto and the 5 speed in regards to the neautral safety switch.

aThe best way to fix this is to get the wiring books for both trucks and modify your wiring.
Also to get a 5 speed computer for a truck like yours.

The N safety should now go through your clutch 3 pos switch, along with the ignition circuit and electric shift circuit.......

Yes, your gonna needa reflash at most or just a chip at the least. Brian at Apten should be able to fix you right up. If I'm guessing right you probably have around 7 different codes? Did you get the manual harness or did you adapt the auto harness to work? I've done that on a OHV-SOHC swap we did because the only harness we could find for the tranny was a auto along with the computer.

Check with Brian at Apten-us.com and see what he says, if you need anything else feel free to ask.
