Sorry Dannyboy, but the truck is sick now..

I'm getting p0308 codes. The codes started just after doing the CPS recall.

Anyone have a black CPS I can borrow?

Dealership wants $160 just to hook it up to the computer, and then they will probably recommend replacing #8 injector, to the tune of $1k. They also claim the CPS can't cause this problem..

I'm considering buy the AE OBD2 scanner kit for Ford to do some of my own diagnose.

He has a 7.3

In my '01 Excursion at 101K (it was already out of the 5 year warranty anyway) they said a failed wiring harness that I drove on for some amount of time caused an injector to fail. The wiring harness wasn't all that bad of a repair...being in So. California working and only knowing of the dealer to work on a diesel was the bad part of that deal for me. The wiring harness was allegedly a common issue.

Sorry about your luck Tom!

.....I want to say thats what happened to a buddy of mines truck not to long ago...90ranajo helped me thru it...You might give him a shout..;)

I dont know which engine you have (7.3 or the 6.0) but the 7.3 usually eats a CPS every few years. So I'd probably just buy one and if its not the CPS, then you'll have a spare CPS when the inevitable comes around.

For the 7.3, the CPS is $30 from Advanced Auto: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...-BWD_20970480-P_985_R|GRPSENSAMS_528119840___

AA is not available on the West Coast..

Yea, the 7.3 eats CPS, and from what I can tell, always registers a weak #8 cylinder. It has a special injector in that cylinder also.

I found on E-bay a complete rebuilt injector set, gaskets, and harness for under $1k.

The dealer wants AT LEAST $300 per injector, plus LOTS of labor (quick estimate was easily over $1k for JUST the single injector).

Well, with the new smog reg's coming in for California Diesels, I broke down and ordered Autoenginuity's OBDII scanner setup, with the Enhanced Ford software..

No, I haven't fixed this bugger yet, I've been broken for the past 2 months to even care (funny thing, 1 tank of diesel has lasted me over 2 months!)

As an update on this..

A new CPS came out from Ford/International. It's black/purple. It does not fix the problem; it is however dirt cheap at under $20 for it.

I found some old back stock, of the recalled International black CPS.

Popped it in, and ran a few errands. Running the AE OBDII test, the vehicle now passes the cylinder contribution test, and has velocities on the #8 cylinder below 2%, and most importantly, NO MORE p0308 (misfire in cylinder #8) codes.

Now, let's hope this new sensor doesn't go bad..

Just experienced my first electrical problem in the Ram. I knew that the trailer lights were on a completely separate circuit, what I didn't know was that the relay for the trailer's turn signals and brake lights is hidden and MOLDED INTO the inside of the fuse box case. That makes a bad relay cost $500 just for the part:eek: Don't even want to think about what the stealership would charge for labor.

Update - the black (recalled CPS) fixed the misfire and cylinder contribution test failure..

Bad news - clutch started slipping, had to be replace. Called South Bend Clutch, and they sent a replacement for 1/2 price (said it shouldn't have failed so quickly).

New clutch is in, and it's SUPER quiet now. The last two clutches rattled badly, the lastest is super quiet, and now the only noise I hear is the ZF6 gear rollover in 1st.
