I'm probably going to head down to Kragen on my way home for work for some new lights for my X. I just wanted to make sure I have the right part numbers for the Sylvania Silverstarts I want. For my headlights the part # is 9007ST and for the fog lights its H1ST. Oh yeah, I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLS.

I've replaced the fog lights before but I was wondering how time consuming headlight replacement is?

~Thanx

Its kind of a pain the first time you do it because you have sort of snake your arm around to reach the headlights. I'd recommend wearing latex gloves to put the bulbs in because its kinda hard to get the bulb in place without touching it with your hands. Those part #'s sound right, but I'd check the book at the store to be sure.

Those part numbers are correct, we have the exact same X, I bought new bulbs a while back and those are the right part numbers. The ST is just sylvanias add-on, if you ever buy another brand just ask for 9007 and H1.

Good to know I'm on the right track. I know this is a hot topic in itself, but how much do you guys like your silverstars?

Actually I don't have silverstar headlights or foglights, I only have silverstar bulbs for the corners. After much internal debate on the subject I bought eurodezigns bulbs on ebay but they, along with most of the rest of my mods are still sitting in a pile waiting to be put on, so I can't really tell you how good they are.

I have Silverstars in both my headlights and the fogs. They're "OK". I've had them for many months and don't really see that much of a difference over standard OEM type bulbs. They're definitely not that white and definitely not "HIDlike". Still more of a yellow tint, just like regular bulbs that cost a lot less.

It's debatable whether I'll use them down the road. I've found threads on other sites that are decidely anti-Silverstar. Seems to be a lot of hype surrounding them. One guy did a demo of how Sylvania Xtravision are a lot brighter than the Silverstar, they just don't have the blue tinting on the bulbs so are more yellow. I have a set of 9007 Xtravisions I'll probably use instead when the Silverstars burn out. Supposedly they don't last that long so it could be sooner rather than later. ;)

i just took my silverstar headlights out of my X today. they were way too bright with my new diamond clear headlights and i was getting flashed all the time. even had 2 confrontatons and had to explain that they were legal. just keep a stock bulb in one side and a silverstar in the other and flip your lights on, trust me you'll see the difference. the silverstars are much whiter and brighter than any other bulb, especially with diamond headlights, it's way too much light.

I'll take your word on the head to head test. I've never done it. I guess I expected so much more out of these bulbs, based on their advertising. I may have noticed an improvement when a first started using them, but it wasn't that significant to me. What irks me about Sylvania's promotion is that they seem to imply they're like HID lighting. Not even close. Most of those tacky superwhites out there look closer to HID than Silverstars.

I have diamond cuts too and never get flashed. I agree the lights are brighter with the new headlights. I've even tried to get flashed by hugging the center line a little when semis are approaching. Semi drivers in this neck of the woods flash me all the time when I drive on the highway with fogs. The highway is a dark, two lane undivided highway too. Never had an issue with my diamond cuts (fogs turned off). Now, when I have my fogs on too, truckers are quick to flash with or without diamond cuts, with or without Silverstars.

Are you certain your lights are focused?

Are you certain your lights are focused?

yep, they are focused. twice already i had to pull over to eplain to people that i honestly don't have my highs on and i'm not being a d*ck. that is getting old very fast so i took them out. and countless times i get flashed. then i flash back and really blast them letting thm know i don't have my highs on. so when i took them out today i did a comparison and it wasn't even close, the silverstars were so much brighter and nicer looking with a clearer less yellow beam, but oh well. it's not worth the aggravation of flashing anymore. the stock bulbs with the diamond headlights will be plenty good enough light wise for me.

I too have the diamond headlights and SilverStar bulbs. I have NEVER been flashed for bright lights.

The SilverStars make a world of difference.

The Silverstars are great. Best halogen I've owned.

I am having this debate now in my head. Has anyone done a test with a silverstar on one side and an extravision on the other? I just can't make up my mind which to go with. Maybe if no one can answer for sure I'll do a side by side test because my Ex and my Subaru take the same size so I can get a pair of each.... I don't know....
