Sync ver 2.6?

Darn it! I just setup an appt with my dealer to get mine updated tomorrow. Question is should I wait till 30th for v2.8 or should I get this updated now? Since I have v2.4, I am guessing v2.7 will show me some improvements, lets see.
I guess I'd say it depends on how well 2.4 is working for you. If its working fine, then maybe you should wait. I don't know of any feature improvements they made 2.4 to 2.7, but I am certainly not the ultimate source of information on that.

2.7 is much better than 2.4 for me. Phone problems went away and system speed and utility is better. My dealer told me today that there are 2 more upgrades coming soon that will improve upon 2.7, but he doesn't have them yet.

Just got mine back from the dealership with v2.7 and clearly the speed of system is improved.

Best example I have seen is the heated seat activation, in v2.4 you would touch the GUI and it would take 1-2 seconds to get a verification the system had received the command and the red lights would turn on gradually.

Touch sensitivity seems to be better as well.

In v2.4 you could be unclear as to whether or not the touch was successful.

In v2.7 the response is immediate, the 3 lights are on in less then a second.

Moving through the menu seems faster as well.

Further testing to follow and tonight I will try the Sierra Wireless 308 HSPA 3.5G rocket stick to see if its recognized.

It's a good day!

First, I got a call from my dealer, and he started off by asking me "guess what just showed up on the lot"? I was like....my X!!! I told him to park out back, and make sure nobody went near it :)

Second, I just checked MySync, and v2.6 is no longer showing. Now it shows Gen2 - V2.8....sweet!!! I just read about 2.8 earlier, and was thinking I'd have to wait for my dealer to get it and then go through the hassle of convincing them I needed it, and arranging to get it updated. I'm thinking the reason I missed my original delivery/ETA is because they held my X back and fixed whatever screw-up was going on with 2.6.

Now I just need to wait until Thursday to pick it up. Going to be on business for 2 days in Tampa and no way was I going to try to pick it up first and leave it at the airport :salute:

Just checked my sync and low and behold...

SYNC Version
Gen2 - V2.8
BT4T-14D546-AM
BT4T-14F496-AP
BT4T-14F497-AM
SYNC compatible software BT4T-14F500-AE
BT4T-14F603-AM

So I'm assuming all v2.6's were really v2.8's and it was just an error showing correctly.

Very happy.. Now just ship the damn thing.

That does seem likely. After posting I went back to the Sync site and took a look at the update history.

There are no new entries for 2.8 being installed, it just now shows that 2.8 was installed back on 3/22, which is when originally it said 2.6 was installed.

Yup, just looked at my history and same thing, shows installed on 3/21 with a build date of 3/17 (built Thursday, installed Monday)

Man, didn't take long for v2.8 to come out after v2.7.... a week?

PS - still show the damn vin error though.

In my book it's good when an update comes out that quickly after a previous one (I work for a technology company).

To me that means they knew what the problem, fixed it quickly, and on top of that felt it was important enough to get it right out and not wait to include other smaller items that could have delayed the release.

To everyone:

In regards to the concerns with v2.6 being displayed on syncmyride, I can confirm that the description for the version information will be corrected by early next week. Those of you who currently have v2.6 displayed on your syncmyride account actually do have the latest SYNC software version. Please check your sync owner account early next week to see the correction.

For the VIN validation concerns, please be advised that there are back end configuration checks that are performed pre-delivery and your VIN will be properly displayed at the time of delivery.

Hope this helps! As always, feel free to PM me with any further questions. Thank you.

Seni

Hey all,

Just wanted to confirm that the previous concern addressed above has been resolved. SyncMyRide will now display the correct SYNC version number, 2.6 will now show as 2.8. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you.

Real question is.. what's different in 2.8. What does it fix, what does it add, etc. Since FORD won't give us this information we can't make informed decisions about how important the update is, and whether it's worth taking the time out of our day and taking it to service.

This whole experience is really starting to frustrate me. I'm having second thoughts about my move away from Chevy to Ford. Why is it so hard to inform customers of what these changes fix/add? Updates should be treated like TSB's. Information on the symptom/problem, and what the fix does to repair the symptom or problem. So far no one can outline any fixes between versions 2.4, 2.7, and 2.8, other than maybe it remembering which of the home screens you were last on.

2.8 fixed my problem of the system occasionally not recognizing the phone as well as screen memory, so they did something to the Sync to make it more stable.

I'm still showing 2.7 on the sync site even though my X has been sitting there for nearly two weeks now. I'm starting to think that only the 2.6 owners got 2.8.

Has anyone with 2.7 seen the update?

So my father purchased an explorer with v2.4 on it this winter (I'm still waiting on mine to ship) and he has had a lot of problems with his sync. He contacted our dealer (really good one, bought many cars from them, large dealer, tech savvy) and they said that 2.4 was the latest version. He emailed Ford owner support and they confirmed that 2.7should be out to all dealers at this time and they should have access to it. Trading emails with the dealer, they said they dont' have it, he copied them the email from Ford and they are "looking into it." It is unfortunate that not all the dealers got the memo I guess and people might be getting bad impressions of their vehicles because the softwares aren't getting updated.

Thanks Seni. That is good news. After waiting (longer than hoped) to take delivery of our X's, I think some of us were concerned what we'd do if the MFT screen was found to say Lincoln, or something else on it (due to wrong software load) :)

Sm4astan!

Pretty funny! I am glad this SYNC issue was resolved too!

Hi Seni,

It would be much appreciated by us patient v2.4 owners if you could touch base with the powers that be at central command and let us know when we too can get the MFT v2.8 software installed at our dealers. And what I would really appreciate is a document with the update procedure pasted here that I could print out and bring with me to show the dealer that the download is indeed available for my X (they continue to insist there's no v2.7 even). Thank you.

It was posted April 30th for 2.8 at dealers.

Sorry I have to come to defense of Ford on this one. It is important, critical, that Ford internal systems work with MFT. That software; that service, needs to be fully functional for all users.

But to expect Ford to make this incredible system (MFT) work perfectly well with every third party android, iphone, blackberry, MP3 player, thumb drive, hard disk and 10 other devices we haven’t even though of, is unrealistic.

This is a truck, not a PC or an entertainment appliance. It’s primary purpose is to move us from place to place quickly and safely. MFT is cutting edge technology, years ahead of anyone else. As early users of the product, we need to use this forum to figure out what works, how to make it work and help others who are new or less technical.

I have had my X for only a couple of weeks, and I am now starting to understanding how much technology Ford has made available to me. Over the next couple of months I plan to read these forum for information, experiment with different gadgets and post what I learn. I expect Ford to fix their systems, but not everyone else’s.

Updating Sync from 2.4 to 2.6 or 2.7 is often a personal choice. If things are working for you, don't update. At some point you probably will be required to update for some new feature or fix something that isnt working perfectly. Most truck until now where about features you got locked in at the time of purchase. Ford has changed that, and it will take Ford and us as users some time to get comfortable with this new paradigm.
