...i haven't done anything to the X besides have it parked for a month and then drove to big bear..my list is getting longer of things to do but they look like they will have to wait till after pismo...it's time for registration on the ranger and it calls for test only and the new test......aren't i lucky..

aww the new test isn't that hard Mine passed it no problem just wish the tailpipe was cleaner.

...Cyber, I just noticed your post...Did you get your plates and your truck is all legal now???

...I went and visited my X briefly yesterday and saw I now have a steering box leak at the pitman...I started the truck up and it was dripping like a runny nose...:(

..I have not taken the test myself yet, and Cybergasm and R.J. are the only ones I know who have taken it...IIRC, This new test check's your fuel recovery system and i want to say it is an addittional charge for the test...:dunno:

...I hope to do the smog and test the middle of next week as I should be leaving town the end of next week for work and I would like to have the ranger with new tags before I head up to Pismo...:D

(

I wish those plates are "borrowed" from a certain black Explorer that had a small fire recently but i need to get it done soon tho.

what is the new test?

The new test is where they clamp off the evap line from the fuel tank to the evap cannister and in stall an adapter on your fuel tank filler and pressurize the fuel tank with nitrogen to a set PSI and test the leak down to see if it's in spec or not.

(Hint: go in with a high level of fuel in your tank this will make the test go quicker and some stations actually make you this before testing)

...Was there an additional charge for this new test and if so, how much???

It adds about 30.00 to the cost of the test at the place i went to. But i think some places might be charging more tho.

...Thanks for the info...

...I just saved 30 bucks this year on my insurance so i figure this will be about $50 and I hope it will pass...

...I take it you got all your smog out of the way since you took that test...Just needing to pay for the registration???

Negative still need the smog done that why i haven't got the reg done yet think it needs a cat and O2 sensor and maybe it might pass.

the fees are already paid just gotta get the smog done and I am golden

and of course pay up the fees for next year since it almost been a year since i started the reg process on this vehicle.

...Well, on Mother's Day I went by and seen my X...Tried to start it and the battery was completely dead and the alarm is no longer lighting up after I charged the battery...While I was waiting for the battery to charge I took the time to do a visual inspection of everything and check it out since last weekend I did the Big Bear run...I didn't do anything much out there but I was surprised at the results..

...You have to guess what's wrong in the first pic...Hint, look at the very top of the pic..;)

...This, I originally broke at cleghorn last year and the weld lasted thru a lot of other trail runs..

...and this is totally new...:D

If you would only get a smaller dog (if thats even possible!), maybe you'd stop breaking parts on the Explorer from all that weight :p:.

I think that gearbox/pitman leakage is common, at least mine does it! ;)
That's what happens with larger tires and actual wheeling, congrats. :p:
I never bothered to do anything about it, just check fluid occasionally and top off if needed.

...lol, I must need to loose some weight...:D...I am truly finding out how much weaker this front end is compared to a truck...I will add some gussets and weld the hoop into place for now..

..I am also going to either put a new seal in or swap the box...It is leaking fluid to fast..I need to do this before the Pismo run as it kind of spooked me seeing all these problems at one time and thinking about what could happen on the freeway...

...The good news, My front bearings are no longer a problem..:p:

hmm looks like it time for new shock hoops

since you are bending those up might as well toss in a cage too. :p:;):D

Hint Hint:thumbsup:

...If I had the time and money I would do the cage....(and a sas)..:D...But for now, I'm stuck with band aids...

...To top it off, the Ranger has now picked up a sputter and I'm hoping it's the MAF and not something related to the smog...

x2 Once it gets hard to turn the truck pulling out of the driveway i fill it back up.
