Tell Me The Truth Is A 3" Body Lift As Bad As They Say?

About the frame being exposed. Please excuse me while I puke. I guess it would bother me if the only off-roading I did was when I backed up in the drive way and ran over my pansy garden. Hell, I might even pin strip the frame so people will even noctice it more.

we arent all "hard core" like you..frame showing is a concern of mine. i did the BL for looks. my 31s allready fit without a problem. so i take a little offence to that comment as looks are a top concern of mine as i know it is for some others. ;)

so are those tulips or daisys in your garden?

no garden ;) ...i do off-raod it some(in wide open places because i will not get a scratch in it :p ) but the main reason i lifted and went with 31s was due to winter time and deep snow.

got the 2" and i thought that i would go bigger than 31" and get 33"s Bfgoodrich M/T's and also get a 4" Tuff country lift

Okay, maybe i should rephrased myself for over-whoring critics on the board. hah :p Making the rear bumper fit is going to take all of 5 minutes with a sawzall, it will cut that metal like a hot comb on nap-ass hair. Unless you are spoiled with luxury of having a healthy supply of fabrication tools at your disposal, its going to take you HOURS to make the (front) bumper brackets look right

I've also done a few of these things, and its never that hard, but never did the bumper brackets take less then 3-4 hours to modify... of course I'm using solely a die grinder... So taking hours is a given. Having less then at least 3/4" of bumper gap on the front bumper isn't finished in my eyes. :D

Basically, anyone not expecting to have to make some mediocre fabrications is going to find this install difficult, a suspension lift would be a tad easier, and practically speaking actually worth your time.

For most people, the steering extension isn't a problem. There are a few like I, whom find the steering extension practically impossible to get to work right. If you were to look at my steering shaft, you can clearly see the bind in the steering. Grinding the face of the extension; oblonging the holes on the steering-column flange; and ultimately leaving the bottom 3-4 bolts loose on the steering flange (so the flange actually can move up and down to stay in phase with that extension  ) has minimized the steering issues. Although as long as i have that extension in there, I'm still going to have an elbow for a steering shaft. But like i said, my problem is 'rare.'

My front bumper brackets took me well under 30 mins. I used a torch to modify them cause my sawzall wasnt working. A sawzall would ALSO take under 30 mins. Sorry if you think this super hard, it isnt. a 3/4 inch gap is no good, I agree. Luckily I have never had any gaps of anywhere near that size. Infact I took out the filler strip entirely on mine and closed the gap to the thin sheetmetal body cross piece with the bumper. Just cause I liked it better that way. It doesnt take any major skill, It doesnt take any major time.

Yeah a torch would defiantly make short of that.

Its not super hard at all... I'm not saying it is. Not everyone realizes they need more than simple hand tools (when diving into a 'mediocre' install as a body lift), and some don't always have the fun tools at their disposal.

I'm not a big fan of body lifts, they are ugly and put undue stress on the body and frame due to the increased leverage.

not if done right ;) you would not be able to tell mine has one unless you looked at the body mounts :p

Yeah but with a body lift the body mounts are right there in the open when you look at it from the side.

not really..atleast with my stock limited bumper you have to get pretty close to the front tire and look for it..

so much bad and incorrect info on this board as of late.

NO you wont see the body lift blocks when you are just standing there. From under or mostly under the truck you will see them. other than that you would have to get pretty close to the front bumper as said. Jesus, if you dont know dont say ****

'Just standing there' i can see the atleast one block upfront and atleast one in the rear. This is while looking practically from any angle while standing 20ft from the side of the truck, clear as day.

i'll admit, an explorer hides a body lift well, probably better than any other truck.

im with you  , but we got to rember the short ***** , you know the ones ... they can see the oil pan , so for them to say they can see the blocks might not be a lie... :D

Maybe you don't know what you are looking at. I can spot a truck with a body lift from a quite a distance.

Sorry bud, I see grass through the back of your truck. When you can see the top of the frame it's an obvious body lift. ;)

AND you can still see the bottom of the frame even under your side steps, from about what...25ft away?

that pic is from the day after i did it..nothing was moved or fixed. it now has the tailpipe moved, safari bar moved, rubber sheeting gap gaurds.

true you can see alittle of the frame/spare tire from the rear...but no frome from the side other then the front spring hanger..but you can see that stock.

parked next to a stock X you cant see without looking pretty close that it has a BL. thats what i was going for w/the 2" and mods to fix the little stuff.

heres the newest pic i took last weekend.it hides pretty damn well IMO.

Cheese and rice you guys are nit picking. One small spot and its terrible? Dear lord. Yes anyone that knows anything can indeed see a body lift. The mention was seeing the body lift blocks themselves. I do infact know what I am looking at. if a little bit of frame or a spot about 3 inches of light coming through is a big problem to you then you have no buiseness as an offroader. keep your junk on the street. I will keep my junk on the trails

oh , nice edit creager. dont you realize that many of us get an e mail with your post as soon as you make it? Not the first time you have said something about me either. See, I usualy let that slide but from you it grows old. you dont know me who the hell are you to judge me? you would hate to meet me in real life? fair enough. dont. also dont post about things or people you dont know.
