I sold my beloved ‘99 EB, but it’s going to a good home, right, @vroomzoomboom ?

I’ll never drive it again. Here it waits for the trailer to haul it to Manitoba, probably later this week.

I’ll miss this beast.

it looks so lonely sitting there. however, yep cats outta the bag. i have a new "victim" to go on the list (victim being one of the may explorers that i have bought, fixed and sold over the years). we just have to work out a date and time that works for brad and the transporter that will be picking it up for me.
funny because this almost started a year ago to the day. this is a post on my facebook page i made from one of the trucks i bought to fix and resell

Untitled.png

brad had contacted me the day after new years telling me that the oil gauge was doing weird things on him, and that what sounded like the top end of the motor was making noises. he had sent me a video of it, and is sounds like the lifters were not pumping up. i am thinking the oil pump is weak, or went south, or the oil pump drive shaft rounded its self somehow. either way, i know that i am facing pulling the motor. i am going to to a quick oil pressure test on it just to make sure. when i pull the motor i am going to pop a few main, and rod caps to look at the crank and bearings. if those are gone, well i have evils 302 still sitting around being used as a bench/mock up in the corner of the shed. brads eddy also has some nice parts on it that i will more then likely be pulling of and replacing with stock parts and either keeping them and using on evil, or reselling, as well as a pile of other parts brad is including with the truck (pssss, it has torque monster headers on it that wont be going back in with the motor and i wont be needing any time soon). i jumped on this truck because its a v8 and they are rare up here in canada, and its also a eddy. i have owned sports, xls, xlt, limited's but never a eddy so i can cross it off the list. the other funny thing is the stroker thats in evil came out of a 96 limited that was owned by "the other brad in canada" brad aka ford99_1979
who also lives in the same city as celly. when the truck gets here, i am going to go threw the spare parts he has, make a for sale post, and also post up the things that have to be done to the truck. i just want everyone aware of this. i am buying the truck AS IS! i am fully aware there might be other problems that celly isnt aware of, and if there is, no bashing. when i bought ford99_1979 truck, the motor ended up needing major repairs and i did receive a few messages from people calling him down for selling me a dud. well, truth is, and to this day i have no bad feelings towards ford99_1979 and if there is something major with cellys truck, the same thing will hold true because in the end of it all, used is used and you take chanced buying used stuff, even more when its sight unseen.
the biggest suck of all of this is i dont have a garage, and all my budys who let me use theres have them full with there stuff. which means i am going to have to wait till it warms up more up there until i really dive into this thing.

120K?!

Pretty nice truck. I'm surprised the motor is making noise in spite of the good maintenance and low miles.

just one of those freak things. i have seen one turn the oil pump drive shaft into a pretzel years back in a buddys mustang

Ditto, the oil pump or distributor locks up, and the shaft doesn't do well. Everyone should have an ARP shaft as spare for when you can change it.

On it’s way. Tim should have it later today. Sad to see it go. Just before the issues surfaced, I told my 13 year old son it would be the firsr car he learns to drive.

:( Wow...

At least it's moving to another good home:chug:

Hmm. Weird emotions are welling up inside, but it is going to about the best home it could hope for. Safe travels Brad!

A scooter. givin up an eddie for a scooter. Times are changin'

Maybe I should fix it and sell it back to brad! Hate knowing that it was going to be the first vehicle his son was going to drive, however, the newest truck I got for my son is showing electrical issues, so he is coming with me to help unload it from the trailer (have to store it at a friends place for a bit until either I can get into another friends garage and work on it, or the snow melts) and I am going to see if he likes it. If he does, then I will give it to him.

man, im pooped...
so lets back up a day. yesterday i got a text from brad saying they are here, and loading the truck up right now.
:confused2:
wasnt expecting that to happen until next week!
then right after that, the transporter texts me "we have loaded your truck up, and will be heading back with it today.

then it happens....
"brad said that he has loaded the truck up with some spare parts he has", which i knew.
but didnt expect.....

no word of a lie, this guy had to back down a driveway that i would say is a 1/8 mile, and he NAILED IT! ive never seen anyone that can back down a driveway that narrow and not screw up!

there she sits. wished i could get a pic of it by evil. have to store it at a friends place few a bit. the bad however. it was killing me to know what was wrong with it, and the noise the motor was making. the transporter couldnt cut the corner on the driveway, so i said to myself, "self, what ever damage thats done, has been done. period." twisted the key, and it fired right up. first thing you could hear was the joint gasket on the headers (and everyone that has TMH's has blown one weather you want to admit it or not). let it idle for a few seconds. nothing. put it in drive, and let it pull itself to where its parked, then it started making the noise.
she's terminally ill ladys and gents. she has rod knock. was hoping it wouldnt have that, but it is what it is.
so here is plan b

evils old motor will be going in weather i like it or not. BUT, there is also a new twist to this. 2 weeks ago (yes 2 weeks) i parked my sons 01 sport, and gave him a 00 sport i picked up, and had to do a boat load of work to. was going to sell it, but the amount of work that had to go into it, i didnt want to hand it over to someone that didnt care. well, thats now going to happen. everything that i have had to fix, someone has been there before me, and royally screwed it up. that and there are also some electrical gremlins that have been going on. i said to him, well lets look at this truck. if you like it, we will fix what needs to be fixed on it, and you can have this one, and we will sell the sport. as soon as it hit the ground, i could see a grin on his face, and that little sparkle in his eyes.
his words were "ooooh....i REALLY like this one! its got a v8 in it too, right?"
im not hotroding this one. as a matter of fact, its all going back to stock. everything except the stereo. that i will let him have. if he wants to play with it, and think he can hang with evil, he can do that on his dime lol. so the nice thing is, it will still stay in the explorer family here. still kinda bumbed brad told his son that he would learn to drive in that truck however...

oh, and a idea of how many parts were in it?

28641681_10155130198257513_1530272867_o.jpg

theres still more. i have to go back and get the rest out of it. there was even parts in the cab of my ranger.
however, digging threw my new bounty, i found this

28534236_10155130198622513_1834174719_n.jpg

ive never seen these before, and thought that was kinda cool!

Quit the score!

Would love to have that transporters rig and trailer...

Excellent, Brad will be happy that his truck found a good home. Your son will love it I'm sure, the stock V8 truck is a fun all around SUV.

fast forward a month, old man winter has had his death grip on us up here in the great white cold north. me without a garage to work in has had to wait until the snow melted enough to bring the truck back to my house, and with evil sitting in the back yard shadowed the sun from also making that white crap go away. asked another friend if i could park it at his place while i work on "eddy". finally enough snow melted and home it came on a co workers trailer. forgot how bad the motor sounded. thought it was gong to seize up just driving it onto the trailer, but it made it

then work threw me a curveball and tossed me on a afternoon shift. so it sat until last weekend. lucky enough it was a toasty 2C (or 35F) for me to start on it

then thats when things on this project took a hard right, into the wall....
this thing has some fight in it. or stubborness if you like. the first wounder event happen when the top bolt head for the starter stripped because it was locked solid. out came the blue wrench for that because i was done asking it to budge. managed not to screw the starter up by some miracle.

6a.jpg

the second was when i tried unbolt the trans cross member to tilt the trans down enough to get at the top bellhousing bolts. yea, those two were having no part of coming loose. they met their fate with a 1/2 angle grinder. anyone that has pulled one of these v8's knows all about that asshat of a bolt on the back of the head for the trans dipstick tube. it came loose, but only after using a 2 foot long bar on my ratchet which is really easy to use when your lying on your back with no room to maneuver, and with your blood pressure rising when the swivel on the end of the extension flys off and lands into the dark abyss. so finially with all the bolts out, and ready to pull, it had one more trick under its hood and that was the motor also locked to the trans. now, i have pulled lots of motors in my time, but never have i had this happen. i had to lift the motor up off the mounts just a tad, then place a jack and a block of wood under the bellhousing. then had to do the most brutal thing, and jack the motor up as high as it would go in the truck and nascar drop it back down....3 times before it seperated enough to get a bar in between the motor and trains, until....

VICTORY!!

8.jpg

so i was out in the shed till around 11:30 last night cleaning up the explosion of tools and swapping a few things from the old motor onto evils old 302. if i can find the correct bolts i need for the manifolds today (the TMH's wont be going back on, not letting them go with the truck as well as some other parts) i should be able to finish it up today, and if im real lucky, and motivated slip it back in where it will have a new name, evil eddy lol.
i was going to give this truck to my kid, but with gas being 1.25 a litre up here (or 4.73 a gallon) there is no way he will afford the gas for it, so when its finished, running and cleaned up, it will have a for sale sign on it.

I like her Color. Sounds like she was fighting you the whole way

Speaking of color. Lots and LOTS of gold in there...
